Coffee - Your Current Brew

Latest haul! An all-naturally-processed haul from S&W Coffee Roasting out of Coatesville, IN. These folks put out some great specialty-grade beans at a very fair price. Being coffee enthusiasts themselves, they're also very active and responsive on social media (u/Pourover on Reddit, for example). These were all roasted on March 18 and I received them a few days later. I've been letting them rest in the cabinet since they're all light roasts. The roaster recommends 2 weeks of rest for all of these except the PNG, which is 3 weeks. I know I've seen some of y'all post that you got some beans from S&W. I broke into the Ethiopia Worka Sakaro Anaerobic Wine Processed beans this morning, and the Sumatra this afternoon. Made an Aeropress with both. Both were good but the Ethiopian was especially outstanding. 13 days off roast, so a bit early. But I did a 10-min immersion, so it negated the effect of the CO2.

Can't wait to try the rest of these!

Nice haul. I really liked the PNG from them.

Just added this machine to my collection, and using Lavazza Top Class capsules:

Don't know how close a Costco is to you, but you can't go wrong with either of these. The Colombian Supremo is our go to, the House Blend is excellent too. I like the convenience of the larger amount with the Colombian Supremo though and if I could only pick one whole bean coffee, it would be my choice. Try them both and see which you prefer. The Moccamaster loves both!
They also have a house French Roast...it's the least expensive, but it kind of sucks.

Wife tells me we tried both ^^^ (she is right). I need a dark roast. As I got older my hair lighter and coffee much darker 🙄
On top of that, now just a dash of organic skim milk and never any sugar, a complete reversal from decades ago.

Anyway, Amazon still out of stock for the 2Lb Dark Roast.
Giving this a try. Will arrive next week and hopefully try it by the end of that week as we use up the Amazon brand. I dont like paying more for fancy packaging, I hope the coffee is as good as the package.
I have tried others of Copper Moon in the past hopefully this one lives up to my expectations.

Looks good. How much?

Which caps are those????? Proprietary looks like? Only Lavazza? Any roasters (others) in work?
Yes, they are proprietary capsules, they are Lavazza BLUE. Because I already own three machines from the BLUE series, I figured what the heck, let me add to my collection :ROFLMAO:

I'll never use the milk based drink options, but I like the look of the machine and the price was right. Further, AFAIK, the only other compatible caps for Lavazza BLUE are available from Bristot and Kimbo, but they are much hard to find in Canada and I don't bother looking for them. From Lavazza, Top Class is my favourite blend.

Lavazza BLUE machines will also accept their other, Lavazza Expert series caps, from the Classy series of machines.

I finally worked my way through 6lbs of mediocre Costco beans. This one is a nice daily drinker blend roasted on the lighter side. A big improvement compared to what l have been drinking. It's from a small micro roaster l heard about in r/pourover. I grinded between 4 and 5 on my ode 2 and used Hario Switch.

I’ll have to keep them in mind, thanks.

My search for fresh and high quality but well-priced beans is never ending.

They seem to specialize in the light roast single origin coffees that you often discuss here. This is my 2nd order from them. S&W is the only other place l have ordered from online.

Review of Papua New Guinea Nebilyer Valley
This coffee is part of my regular subscription where each month I receive a different coffee from a small estate somewhere in the world. The coffee is processed in small batches and is only available for a short time.

While these beans are described as a dark roast 'd consider them more as a dark medium roast. In any case, they're not quite as dark as many of Peet's dark roasts.

The coffee brewed up very nicely in the French press, and provide a good quantity and quality of crema. I've had coffee with a greater amount of crema, but this was certainly more than adequate.

There are definite notes of chocolate in this brew ... a subtle but noticeable underlying tone of dark chocolate ... not quite, but close to a bitter-sweet bite. Very nice ... not at all overwhelmng but defititely a presense. I thought I detected some blueberry or other fruity presence as a note way below the chocolate. This is not an "in-your-face" coffee but one with definte and clearly defined flavor notes, most noticeable when sipped and savored rather thn drunk down quickly.

The addition of a little bit of sugar might be nice and might enhance this brew. I'm guessing as Igenerally don't add sweetener to my coffee, but I will with my net cup. Just a skosh. Milk or cream might overwhelm the background notes, but IMO it may be worth a try.

Overall, a very satisfying cup.

McDonald’s just added this to the menu here in Canada for a limited time and I’m anxious to try it! The location I went to yesterday didn’t have it yet though but I will make it my mission to find it in the next few days 🤓
