I use a Mueller supergrind burr grinder with whole bean coffee I get on clearance from TJ Maxx, and I brew with a Mainstays 12 cup drip coffee maker that I got on clearance for $7 at Walmart. Good enough for me (y)(y)

My Ratio Six came today. Pretty soon we are going to do our coffee brewer shootout.
We are trying to work out the rules and test procedures and what coffee brand to use.

I still use an old electric percolator my parents gave me years ago when I was in college, made by West Bend. I know it's different, but it really does make the best coffee compared to drips or keurigs.

I don't buy whole beans, but occasionally get some as a present. I use my magic bullet, works good enough.

Percolator coffee done correctly taste delicious. I grew up drinking it that way, it's kinda like moka pot, you just have to make sure you stop the heating at the right time.

First pots out of the ratio are a little sour. Under extracted I think. I'm going to adjust the grind and see if that helps. Costco Columbian whole bean.

Here is another method of preparation that I like. It's an immersion style I really enjoy. Called Clever Dripper.

I don't typically like anything with a modern design....but I had an emotional response when I saw this. It's absolutely stunning.
We've had a super automatic Jura at work for over 10 years now, it's made well over 20,000 shots with no repairs, just regular cleanings and descaling whenever it signals. Blows away any Italian made machine with this amount of complexity, in reliability and durability.

I just upped my weekend coffee game by going to the Hario Skerton Pro.
I never ground beans before, and it definitely made a difference. I bought
the 8 O'Clock original beans as my first experiment. I am impressed, and I'm
looking forward to experimenting with other beans in the future.
So my coffee has been tasting like crap the past couple weeks. Tried playing with the grinds and the water temps, and using filtered water too. However, this morning while looking for answers on the internet, I came across what I believe is the problem.

It looks like my fellow BITOG members didn't clue me in to the fact I have to CLEAN my grinder :D:oops:

I am going to use the newly discovered (to me) rice method to clean it out tonight. Hopefully tomorrow's coffee won't taste like metalic mud anymore.

I used to have a Gator french press and burr grinder but after awhile the manual grinding got annoying so I gave it away last year and got a cheap Black and Decker drip from Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Does everything I need but the hard water here leaves stains and calcium deposits everywhere :(

Tried Winco Swiss Water decaf Sumatra straight this AM. It's $7.XX per POUND.

Not bad, but amazingly insipid. Will blend, as usual.
Back when I was regularly roasting my own beans, a 50/50 blend of a Mandheling Sumatra and a Central American or Colombian was a favorite.

UPDATE...........
Cleaning my grinder definitely made a difference, but I am not where I want to be. This morning I opened a new bag on Dunkin Donuts beans. What I got out just isn't as good a a cup of coffee I buy at a DD. I guess I need to experiment more with time and temp and grinds. However I originally thought the combination French Press and grinding my own beans would be a simple way to get a good cup of coffee. Turns out it's more complicated than I thought and I'm giving second thoughts to a drip coffee maker. Maybe an AIO maker? I'm looking for the best combo of simplicity and quality of coffee in return.
