Coffee -- Your current Brew(er) and grinder

I bought two identical MMs from the ame person...both were brand new. I bought the Baratza Encore about 3 years ago,but had it in the garage for a year or more until I finally broke it out.
The other grinder is a Delonghi Ariete. That setup is at our beach house. I've had some other gear prior that was decent. Will look for pictures of those.

I used to have two each of these Motif Essentials coffee makers. They were excellent and brewed to the SCA Golden cup standard. They were made by Melitta for the outfit that also sold Bona Vitas but were discontinued. I used these grinders that I got from Amazon and Ali Express. The grinders were actually decent but a bit messy.

I used a the least expensive Mr Coffee maker for years until it shot craps. Then I received a Kuerig single cup maker and used that until it died.

Now I have one of these. https://hamiltonbeach.com/the-scoop-single-serve-coffee-maker-47550

It makes a perfect cup of coffee in both flavor and brew time at just the right temperature. I use most of all Aldi's coffees.....

Lastly, I store them in this, which keeps the grounds fresh all the way to the end. https://www.amazon.com/Coffee-Gator...t=&hvlocphy=9051761&hvtargid=pla-823571312612
I use the same type of cannisters for my beans...paid $15-$20 each on Amazon. They work great.

I've been using the old French press lately along with the recently purchased OXO grinder. Mr. Peet, the founder of Peet's Coffee, sold me on the idea of the French press back in 1969, and he sold me the one pictured here at that time.

The nice thing about this press is that there are no plastic parts, inside or out, other than the piece that secures the handle to the press itself, and that's some strong, heavy-duty plastic.
Nothing but stainless steel touches the coffee ... that's an important feature for me.

Simple Bunn Velocity brewer. My grinder is a Jura Capresso conical burr grinder. Current beans are Tim Horton's red bag 🎒 This is a very flavorful bag.

Kiss for me (Keep it Simple Stupid). Staying with the traditional Melita manual filter/pour. Always delivers to start the day along with Pike's Peak (Starbucks). If using beans, a Braun grinder has served me for 20+ years.

I enjoy the entire coffee making ritual in the morning. Seven scoops of beans into the Baratza Encore, stir them with a wet spoon and grind at about #19. Meanwhile, fill the Moccamaster with water from a pitcher and rinse out the paper filter. Dump the ground coffee into the filter basket and give it a few sharp bangs on the counter to tamp them a bit and fire up the MM. My go to beans come from Costco:
Kirkland signature Colombian Supremo
Kirkland Signature house blend roasted by Starbucks
Peets Major Dickasons
Mayorga Cubano roast
....not necessarily in that order.

Trying to get my wife off the Keurig. I don't like the spent cups. The #4 filters I use in an ancient Cusinart 12 cup drip get tossed on my compost heap.

Apart from the waste, another reason that I dislike Keurig is that the capsules are plastic and they seem to impart a slightly off taste to the coffee.

If capsules are your thing, I'd suggest the Nespresso system. All the capsules and spent coffee are recycled through a free program they have, and the capsules are all aluminum, which I've not found detrimental to the taste of the coffee.

Do a search on Nespresso recycling videos, you'll find some useful info.

Andy, I here you. I am not an alarmist, but I cannot help to think that heated plastic touching our food is a good thing.

Ar home I have the smaller size Moccamaster brewer with the thermal carafe and a Capresso Infinity conical burr grinder. In my RV I use a Zojirushi water boiler, a blade grinder and a Clever Coffee Dripper. If I had to choose which makes the best coffee I would choose the CCD which is saying something because the Moccamaster makes excellent coffee. I stir the grounds in each device during the brewing/steeping process. Beans get stored in the freezer or in an Airscape canister.

I tried stirring the grounds during brewing. I've also tried turning the Moccamaster off for 30 seconds to interrupt the brewing...so-called pre-infusion or "blooming". My previous Motif Essentials coffee maker had that as a feature. I'm not convinced it has any effect on the taste of the coffee. I belive it's coffee voodoo.

Bunnzilla time 😀 or is it a grindmaster?

For me the blooming phase is different than stiring. Blooming in my experience has been when really fresh grinds off gas and expand when first hit by water. Letting it bloom gives the grinds a chance to settle down before you add more water, thereby avoiding a huge mess. 😁 so in a way I agree I guess.

Stirring just makes sure you get all the grounds wet, if that's already happening then you'll notice little change.
