Coca cola issues lately.

Just my observation...may you live to be 100.

I think this is the second time you've done a post like this and I LOL'd just like I did the first time!

Again, great marketing because people are following instructions.

Certainly, but soda has been around a very long time. The real sucker markets are for the energy drinks and bottled water.

I agree with the both of you. This is something that always amazed me. But it is a reality that is here to stay, and a lot of people are profiting from it.

Genetics have nothing to do with it. Dentists have a nickname for what soda does to teeth, it's called "mountain dew mouth".

And by the way-I drink no soda whatsoever and never have. And I have no tooth decay, even at 70 years old.

Genetics are heavily involved in tooth decay. Diet/hygiene is a limiter or catalyst. The dentists I know who also do research at Boston universities say both involved.....

I like to have a can of Dr. Pepper with my lunch. I used to drink far more soda but I really tried to reduce my caffeine intake so I try to keep it to one a day or so. I have no problem with people who drink lots of it. If they enjoy it and want to then go right ahead!

Note: In another time, cigarettes were said not to have caused cancers and some makers of cigarettes lied about the health hazards to humans. Now here we are on a great conquest to question the health issues of colas. At least drinking a cola does not make you smell like smoke...

That is a rather poor comparison....but probably one that the media and health "officials" will make.
Here is a link that sheds a bit more light on the subject and the 'study'.

The lead researcher, Gitanjali Singh, does however seem to think that due to this 'research'...we need governments help.

Here are some of her statements:

"She said her findings, presented Tuesday at an American Heart Association meeting in New Orleans, point to a need for policies that curb people's sugary drink intake".

"Singh said that's not the only type of measure officials could take. Others could include taxing sugar-added drinks, or limiting advertising of the beverages to children".

Some other interesting points of this study:

These latest findings do not prove that sugary drinks kill people. They only show a correlation between high consumption and deaths from heart disease, diabetes and certain cancers.

"This type of study cannot prove cause-and-effect," said Lona Sandon, an assistant professor of clinical nutrition at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas.

"Sugary beverage consumption is often paired with other unhealthy food choices or behaviors," said Sandon, who was not involved in the study. "Chronic diseases, such as heart disease and diabetes, are the result of many factors, not just excess sugar intake."

The marketing works. People follow instructions. They buy nothing and are happy. Politicians do the same thing and people follow instructions. Substance is not required to succeed if one has the right marketing plan.

I don't think an analogy exists when I decide to buy a Coke at lunch.....compared to when I head to the voting booth. I'm intelligent enough to know that drinking too many sugary soft drinks isn't healthy. I also know that having a few a week isn't causing any health issues either. As a consumer I KNOW what I am paying for in a soft drink. Substance? I don't look for vitamins and minerals in a Coke. But on a hot day...and when I'm thirsty...sometimes nothing beats an ice cold soft drink.....substance be [censored].

In retrospect...I think a Coke has more substance than those in congress. And I don't think many folks in this country are happy at all with who they have elected. I guess that's why I've almost entirely ceased voting anymore. It's corrupt.
At least I know for sure what I am getting with a soda pop.

Coke is DELICIOUS with some Jack Daniels!! Or better put,Jack Daniels is DELICIOUS with a tiny bit of Coke :^)

Tobacco ,alcohol and sodas should be a treat for special occasions, not consumed in a way that would be considered gluttony.

This has absolutely nothing to do with health. This is the old Socialist "control peoples behavior by taxation" business. Its about the money and how they can get it. "Its for the children" you know.
This Singh character is a thug, a scoundrel a genuine control merchant who in earlier times would be tar and feathered before being run out of town on a rail.
I volunteer to pour the hot tar. LOL

Trav, i have to respectfully contradict you:

it's even worst, it's called "5 minutes of fame" and "I have this on my resume".

Contradict away. So what you are saying is this is a two faced scoundrel.
Not just one with an agenda but one for personal gain and fame also. LOL
