I bought an 06 cbr1000 about 3 weeks ago. The bike is in excellent shape and was 100% stock. 3700 miles, bought new in march of 07. I got it home and changed the oil with maxima blend 10w40, 300 miles later the clutch is slipping so bad its barely ridable. I ordered a new clutch and will be changing it wensday hopefully. Its seems rare to me for a clutch to go out at 4k miles on a street bike. Do you think it could have been the oil or a problem with the clutch. The dealer said honda will not cover it under warranty unless it was a defect.

maybe the previous owner was a little clutch happy. you can smoke a clutch, any clutch, in a few minutes if you beat on it.
It's not the oil's fault. Sounds like the prior owner might have been a mad stunta.

I see the OP is in Georgia. If the bike came from the Atlanta area it was probably beat on. There are two types of riders in that area. They have the 15 foot swing arm crew and the icy hot stuntas, yo.
I am in south georgia. Even the service manager new the guy I bought it from and said I was getting a great bike that was really taken care of.

A clutch is no big deal... Cheap and easy to replace.
Are you totally sure the clutch is worn? Might the cable be out of adjustment?
Its a hydraulic clutch. I hope its easy to change since this is the first time for me changing one. I will let you know wensday. lol
I've had 'brand new' clutches slip.
My recommendation is to upgrade.
For this low mileage bike, I would've simply installed better springs leaving the stock clutches in.
I would also try a different oil. Unless you beat on it, 300miles is too short of a distance to feel such a drastic change. And, it'll take about 300miles for the additive package to completely soak those clutches.
So, I would change the oil 1st. If that doesn't help, replace the springs. ..... then the clutch.

I changed it today and the clutch was fried. Looks like alot were stuck together because they were dry.
Ditto , I'd sure as heck stuck in 3 bottles of rotella diesil oil and run it a 100 or so miles before I bought a clutch.
I have no experience with that particular oil, But I know the Rotella is a stout friction oil.
Check your resovior for any goo at the bottom, deteriorated fluid can cause hanging clutch issues also.
my guess you really have some defect, check the records and see if the guy ever had it in the shop for that.
