A friend of mine is selling his 10 yr old Honda Civic and gave me a brand new 5qt jug of castrol 10 W 40 high mileage synthetic blend he just bought off Amzn. I change my oil in my 5 yr old 300 cc Yamaha Xmax scooter every nine months, it has about 10,000 miles on it. OK to use this oil? Scooter is exclusively a neighborhood bike, all stop and go use…..

It won't hurt anything. About the only difference with high mileage oil, is it employs an ingredient that helps "condition" seals, and prevent, or at least slow down leaks.

I've read on this forum where some guys prefer to use it on new vehicles as well. For the purpose of keeping the seals from leaking. I have a bad rear main seal on my 1991 Ford 5.0 V-8.

I've been using Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 10W-40 High Mileage Oil for the last several oil changes, and it has cut down the leaking by a very large margin. So I will continue to use it.

What's the spec requirement for that Yamaha scooter? I suspect there's a JASO MA or MA2 lube needed? Is there an internal wet clutch in there?
I'd not automatically assume it would be a proper application for that lube you got from a friend.

no wet clutch, dry belt variator….. any major 10W-40 oil SG type or higher is recommended per the manual, this exceeds that.
