For a few weeks I have been trying to get to a live representative on a significant Citibank credit card issue. I have not been able to get past the automated attendant no matter how many different ways I tried.

Found the code word in getting a Citibank live representative:

"File FDIC complaint".

The above statement came back with an automated response that Citi is sorry I am unhappy and am being connected to a live agent. The live agent was able to successfully work the issue the Citi automated system was not able to process.

The "file FDIC complaint" may work with other FDIC regulated financial institutions that won't let you get past the automated attendant.

Certainly worth a try.
One can usually break through to a live CSR simply by pushing random sequences of keys until it happens.

Usually I say talk to a real person or something like that a couple times and it works for most things. I hate menus like that. If I am calling, I am calling to talk to a real person.

You really should write a letter and send it to the address on the website or the back of a statement. Words spoken on the phone even to a live representative have little legal standing. Also I don't think the FDIC has anything to do with credit cards, it is for money deposited in a bank.

I've had luck with a couple of these with "I would like to speak to a human" good luck!

Just repeat "human" or "representative"
About 50 +/- tries at that over many phone calls. Citi knows exactly what they are doing and the intent of what they are doing. They put a lot of analysis and flow charts to make sure a customer can't talk to a live Citi representative.

This is intentional on Citi's part. This is what happens when a company is backed by the American taxpayer and is monster big.

I have a very difficult time with "Taxpayers are likely to make $12.3BN in profit"..... All I know is gas is $5.00gal and my taxes haven't changed. Only the cost of living and inflation is going up. I wonder where all those billions are going??? I'm also wondering how politicians somehow become millionaires overnight on a six-figure salary.... Lot's of questions.... None make any sense.

Representative is what I use.

Of course you could always change to another entity. I call them ****tybank for a good reason from a few years back.

It is an account with citi I am required to have by the organization I work for..no way I would ever voluntarily have a account with citi.

My wife loves Wells Fargo because the employees at the local branch are "really nice." I told her I'm sure some of the guards in Auschwitz were "very nice" but it doesn't mean the Nazi party was all that great.

She didn't like my analogy.....
