Chevy turbo max 4 banger

It will be far less than a $1,000.00. Not enough to affect you if you going to turn around and buy another $50,000 or $60,000( or more) truck.
I don't think it has anything to do with the cost of the next 50k+ purchase but I see your point that a typical trade in customer might not mind but I have a hunch it would be a couple thousand in trade in lost vs the V8 trucks especially when it is treated as an option vs base 2.7. This is my initial thought process....BUT!!! I went on Kelly Blue book and did the value on identical trucks (2022, LT trim, 4X2, 40k miles and very good condition) but one with the 2.7 and one with the 5.3. I was astonished that the values were IDENTICAL! The trade in was 31,415 and private sale was 34,987. So with the 4 or the 8 you get the same value. I am totally surprised by this. Next I am going to check real world sales and what's on the lots now !! lol!

I'm surprised at that as well....but as I stated originally-it isn't going to be much-in the big picture. Excluding the Maverick (even though prices have crept up) there are no "bargain trucks" Chevrolet/Sierra (new style)-regardless of motor size.

Looking at the Canyon.

2.7L Turbo

27 psi boost??!!???

Cylinder deactivation?? is that true?
I think it is. And it can run as a 2-cylinder. There’s a lot of engineering into it. I suspect it will be a sweet motor for the canyon/colorado. There are some pretty good articles out there on it.

Wondering if it boosts in 2-cyl mode? I guess not.
I would imagine It has to, to a degree. These engines wont run at all w/out the turbo. Like if you disconnect the air duct from the charge air cooler outlet to the throttle body, or even if you have a small leak/crack in the air duct, they'll go in limp mode at best.

I have to amend my statement way above in this thread. On our Silverado 2.7T's at the plant, you can hear the turbo if you rev it a bit in P or N. I don't notice any turbo noise normal driving. To me they're surprisingly powerful, with all the fuel economy of a 6 or 8. LOL

2 cylinders under 0 ATM will be more efficient than 4 cylinders a at 0.5ATM. But, I think they start to richen the mix under boost to attempt to hold temperatures down, so at some point more cylinders are more efficient than 2 under boost - there’s probably some light boost before it crosses that line. Totally guessing on my part.

Anecdotal, but my friend had major issues with his 2.7 paired with the 10 speed in his Silverado 1500. The tranny would refuse to upshift, and the engine would throw codes with loss of power. This was with only 40,000 miles on the truck. Ultimately ended up dumping the truck and going back to a 5.3 1500 with no issues since. Could have been a lemon, but would make me leery. I know for a fact he is good about his maintenance and not hard on trucks.

Lack much detail on corporate sales sites......wish GM had torque # at ~2000 rpm

GMC:
  • 310 hp [231 kW] @ 5600 rpm
  • 430 lb-ft of torque [583 Nm] @ 3000 rpm
Toyota

  • 278 hp @ 6000 rpm
  • 317 lb-ft @ 1700 rpm

I'm sure they could get much more torque out of the Toyota 2.4, but knowing them they kept it conservative. Someone out there is going to crack the tuning and do stupid stuff :ROFLMAO:

Meanwhile the 8 speed behind the Toyota 2.4T has been failing as well.

Unironically mine has been having shift flares when cold. *sigh* Welp...

Imo, I haven't been a fan of any transmissions in the last 10 years or so. They all seem to stay in higher gears too long so you have low RPM for MPG but no power. I may have to consider tuning my truck to hold onto gears longer.

edit: added "a fan". Helps to have a complete sentence 🤦‍♂️

Below is a torque curve I saved from a video of a GM engineer when the 2.7 came out in the Silverado, they were testing it against the 2.7 ecoboost so that's the other line on the graph. But you can see how fast the torque comes on here in the GM.

The reports about the 8 speed in the silverado are the old 8 speed. The colorado/canyon get the new 8 speed and so far there are no real reports one way or the other but GM claims to have fixed it.

The ZF 8 speed is not like that in the slightest. I've never been a fan of Ford's transmissions, they even skip shift in the F150?
