Truck sees limited miles, get a once a year change, has had Mobil 1 since new, but with changes to Mobil 1 considering changing to other oils.

Some possibilities GC 0W30, Rotella T syn 5W40, Pennzoil Platinum 5W30, Havoline dino, Phillips 66 semisyn.

This engine does not have the cold piston slap, sees very limited towing (could change oil to some other for towing use prior to trip).

Looking for a once a year change with about 5000 miles. Currently we are using AC filter.

Thanks

Havoline 5W-30, with the high moly content, is an excellent choice. So would Pennzoil Platinum, and the 10W-30, with a very good (low) Noack volatilty rating, is an option to consider.

I like to change the PCV valve on a yearly basis on my GM 5.3L. It's a 30 second job & the PCV is 3 bucks at Advance Auto. Good insurance for maintaining a clean runnning engine!

Daman. I agree with you. I will stick with the M1. I have been using it since it came out in th 70,s. It has served me well.

At this point, I'd just stick with M1. But there are other great brands at a lower cost that work just as well.

I would keep useing M1. It has done fine so far no sense changeing now unless you simply want to. RTS5W40 and PP would probably do just fine as well.

If you want a truly great synthetic, I would use the GC 0w30. If the group III stuff is ok with you, stick with ex-Mobil 1 or try PP. Conventional, I'd try the Havoline. I had the exact same choice with my 2004 Silverado. I went with the Penzoil since it had a much better price as a group III (found it on sale).

I'm not a fan of the Trop Artic/Kendall/Motorcraft family of oils in the 5.3L engine.

My 99 Silverado had a slight piston slap/cold start knock issue and Motorcraft 5W-30 definitely generated more noise.

GM engines have more valvetrain components than a Ford, and the moly content & friction modifiers in Havoline make for smoother start-ups.

I have the 5.3L in my 2005 GMC Envoy. I was using 5W-30 Mobil 1. After all the mobil 1 rumors going to Group III, I decided to change. I was going to use Havoline 5W-30. However, Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30 went on sale at the BOGOF at AAP. I bought all they had at $2.89 per quart. I think I wound up with about 46 quarts. Enough to last me about 2 1/2 years with 6 months oil changes.
If you don't want to pay the regular price for PP which is about $6.00 a quart. I would go with the Havoline 5W-30. You can usually find it a Walmart. Chevron supreme is and excellent choice except it's not as readily available as the Havoline.
I think all the choices you mentioned are very good.
