Decision time on next oil change

I've been looking the last few months for a different oil to start running in my 04 Silverado (5.3 Vortec)~195k miles and this would also eventually be used in my ope. I've looked into Mobil Delvac 1 5w40, Delvac Extreme 15w40, Mobil 1 15w50, and lastly Mobil 1 ESP 0w30. This will be replacing Swepco 306 15w40, which has given me good service but I've had quite a few discrepancies with voas that make me uncertain of the oils consistency.

The truck goes 1 year or about 8k miles between changes, ope is usually bi yearly. It's looking to me like the best all around option for all weather, oci mileage and engine types is ESP 0w30.

Thoughts?

Not much less than 10 degrees f
Technically 4f is the limit for a 15w but it'd still crank and fire just not as happily. I'd consider a 5w. You can't go wrong with any diesel or European 0/5w-40. I buy lots of Quaker state 5w-40 since it's 22.97 a jug but it has to be ordered but shipping is free and fast so it's no problem. For my old high mileage trucks they get whatever cheap 15w-40 and they have never gotten close to 10f at crank, my newer truck gets the better oil. Do you do more than 100 hours on your ope in those 6 months? I usually go 2 years and even then the oil is still pretty clear but it only gets like 40 hours per year.

And if you want a great trans fluid that these 4 speeds love buy this stuff. HD sells it locally and amazon as well and both at the same good price. Both my old 03 and 05 shifted notably better after changing to this after my mechanic told me this was the good stuff for these old 4 speeds and it really is and I think it's because this has a kv100 of 8.0 which seems to help. https://www.homedepot.com/p/CASTROL...en-US&gStoreCode=6586&gQT=1&gDelivery=PICK_UP

Mobil 1 ESP 0w-30 is hard to beat for the cost/ performance and readily available at Walmart. The 12 quart garage box M1 0w-40 is good option to. It’s been reformulated but still affordable for what it is.

Honestly I don't ever track the hours on ope, I just keep the oil checked and usually change around the two year mark. That's usually when I change the air filter and spark plugs as well

Any 5/10w30 synthetic would work.

Considering you've listed several 40s and a 50 weight and thought of going with the 0w30, why not just go with M1 FS 0w40 as it will probably end up a 30 anyway by the end of the OCI. Biased here as I've used it for years, thought about changing a few days ago, but after some reading and input from here, staying with it.

That's another good option

Your truck and OPE are antique engine designs not requiring anything much from a good synthetic
If there is a better option I'll typically use it. My understanding is a good Euro Synthetic or a good HDEO is a better lubricant than a regular ilsac oil. My preference is to use the better lubricant.

As far as engine designs go....there really isn't anything out there that isn't antique. Everything out there is just the same idea replicated with a new label on it. Direct injection, forced induction and overhead cams aren't new tech. Its been done before. Even cylinder deactivation and variable valve timing isn't new. So antiquity really has nothing to do with it.

Euro lubes and HD lubes do a better job of cleaning, have longer drain capability, and typically use higher quality base oils and additive packages. I'm going to use them.

I'm sorry if I sounded like a smart aleck... wasn't my intention.
