Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 observations

I've been running this oil for a week now in my 04 Silverado with the 5.3 Vortec, and here's my completely unscientific findings:

Starts faster
Engine seems to warm up quicker
Incredibly smooth and responsive acceleration

I don't track fuel economy so I have nothing to share there. So far quite pleased with this oil selection and I think I made the right choice with the switch. With the kv100 viscosity being nearly light 40 grade territory, it isn't much lighter than the Swepco 306 15w40(12.7 kv100 per voa) it replaced. Much lower zddp than the Swepco but higher boron and Moly, much lower calcium than the Swepco but with the possibility of some ester content in the ESP the detergentcy and seal conditioning aspects should be better long term. Just thought I'd share.

The latest ESP reformulation has no Moly, not that it matters. You can't compare elementals individually, only finished product vs. finished product, and even that is very difficult.

All in all, don't think about it too much, just enjoy it. Will work better, especially in winter, compared to 15W-40.

I know all of these things, but the most recent voa I've seen of this oil showed 70ppm molydenum. Whatever is or isn't in it seems to be a great oil. If it works well and and stays available I'll keep using it

I have not seen a reformulated ESP 0w30 as of late 2024. Still the ester formula with around 70 moly

This bottle I bought for top offs claims no API SP, although the Mobil website claims it passes the wear test for it. Only claims acea c3, mb229.31, mb229.51 mb229.52, vw 504/507, and Porsche c30. Unsure of the age of the bottle

Splitting hairs but its not a wear test its the "API SP engine oil test requirements"
generic answer:

m1 0w30 is a very good oil.

The 5w30 esp is officially api SP, however at least here it is generally considered good but lesser to the 0w30 variant.

M1 esp 5w30 is still a great oil with these approvals and api SP for anyone who cares.

In addition to all of those approvals above that are listed for ESP 0w30, ESP 5w30 also adds BMW LL04 and it is API SP for those who may care

I have both from the AAP oops a few weeks ago.
will use both with confidence.
Currently using a jug of M1 5w30 EP not 100% sure it wasnt the HM formula but I am pretty sure it was regular EP with -33C pour point.
I will send in for UOA on it in a 4-8 weeks.

another odd fact the m1 ep 5w30 HM has a PP of -54C vs -33C(-27F) for the non HM version.

Honestly no SP is a plus. A little more P than allowed by api. Mid saps

I was in WM awhile back and the quart bottles didn't show SP but the 5 qt jugs have it. I think the bottles don't move off the shelf near as fast and are most likely older, even at WM the quarts are way overpriced compared to buying a larger container of oil.

I've been thinking about this oil a lot lately but currently running the R&P in my car and waiting for a warm day to extract it from my 04 Sierra to replace it with this.

I honestly don't recall SP being on the 5 quart jug I bought, and it was one of the new styled jugs. Seemed like it had everything that's listed on the quart bottle I posted. But from what I've gathered esp in any viscosity is a really good oil.

ESP 0w30 is also recommended for C2 applications. C2 is similar to C3 but with a fuel efficiency requirement.

such as too much P.
but not the actual engine oil tests for API SP..

5w30 esp is actual api SP.

According to Mobil 1 it says meets or exceeds those requirements and it doesn't say anything about being suitable for use.
