i got back from WM and noticed (2) 5 qt. yellow jugs were not totally full they were slightly less oil in two of them...I put 5 of them on my kitchen island after double checking with a level just to be sure the island was level and two had slightly less oil in them after sitting there for three hours.. I then measured the oil in a container and there was a very slight difference did this happen to anyone else?
They were sealed tight and did not appear to have leaked.

You sound like my wife lol

Maybe it's a quality control problem maybe they may forget an additive next time... Maybe it's not theit fault at all and it somehow leaked out although there were no signs of that..
Im sort of funny i like to get what i pay for..

Unless it was more dramatic than it sounds, I wouldn't worry about it.

I see this all the time in buying quick detailers and whatnot. They are never perfectly the same.

This is how they rip us off...I'm serious too. They sell so much that a little bit adds up to large amounts every hour/day/month/year and thus more profits for shareholders. I know it sounds negligible and of course our engines aren't going to tell the difference but it is the principle.

I'm with you crazyoildude!

I agree, even if it's only a fraction of an ounce it adds up over time for the oil companies, especially with what oil costs these days. Maybe the Dept of Weights and Measures might be interested in hearing about it.

If you measure the quantities carefully, I think you'll find that all of the jugs contain a little more than five US quarts.
Containers for all sorts of liquid goods are typically slightly overfilled to ensure that nobody gets less than the volume listed on the container.
Since you've mentioned that the bottles are yellow, I'll have to assume that we're talking about PYB.
Why not email SOPUS about this?
I'm pretty sure they're not trying to cheat anyone, but if they had a bottling line problem for a specific date I'm sure they'd want to know about it.

Companies short-change consumers can be fined big $ by Dept of Weights and Measures.

^^^ This.
If anything they're likely to very slightly overfill so as not to get caught out if they are inspected by dept of weights and measures.

The plastic bottles themselves wont be precisely the same volume, some will flex and bow a little more than others, so even two jugs carrying exactly the same amount can show slightly different levels.

Just how much was the measured discrepancy when you poured them into the other container crazyOD? Are we talking less than half an ounce? Also, roughly what level do you think your measurement error was in this? It seems there would be plenty of room for small errors due to oil residue if you had to empty them into a given container one at a time.

I buy oil the same way as washer fluid. I only take the most full bottles. Yes, I know I have a problem...

I noticed the same thing - it's the way the jugs are made. The jugs are not made with precision, so if the plastic is thinner they bulge out and it looks like there is less oil in the jug.
