Well, if you call ACDelco Classic filters [censored] then so be it. I think they work just fine, and they have for decades, so I think I will keep on doing what I have been doing for decades. I don't need or want a $9.00 filter.

Your engine doesn't have a so called "dry start" when you change the oil filter.
 
If you have the gas engine - 6.0 , the oil filter does not have a bypass , it's in the block. And 2x - OCI will be fine on that filter.

I've been doing it for awhile. Unless your engine is putting out a LOT of crud, you'll be fine. And if it's putting out that much crud, it's probably screwed, anyway.

I feel bad for removing a Fram Ultra after 4k miles...ughh..bad habit to always change oil and filter...
 
You really want to feel better about this,lol? My dad did this all the time with the fram orange can on his sport trac. 200000 miles later no issues

Don't feel too bad. 2 of my last 3 six month oil changes on my 5.7L were on Mobil 1 at 350-600 miles with a M1 filter. I should have saved that oil for my DD....lol.
 
Filter every other change was Fleet's mandated maintenance schedule. I don't like it and change every time, but it works fine for those that do.

My big objection is the full quart of dirty oil in the filter mixing with the new fill ... So if you have a 5 quart system that can go 5K, you now have a 4 (new) quart system that can go 4K for 9K on the filter ...

Since you should never pull a used filter and re-install, how are you going to empty that old one and keep using it?

It's not likely that the media is plugged (which will lead to by-pass), but why - filters are cheap enough ...

Fram-olater's are $8, premium WIX or Baldwins are maybe $12. What's the deal with spinning on a new filter... If it's a vertical spin-on, pre-fill it with new oil

The only thing that's wrong with your point, and barely wrong, is that there are few filters out there taking a full quart any longer. And, I agree, I don't like the idea of changing the oil in the F-150 and leaving a quart full of old oil in the Wix 51515 and leaving it for another interval. On the other side of the coin, the G37 has a tiny filter, and I probably could, but one always has to wonder about the dirt holding capacity of a 51358 versus a 51515.

Heck, a Wix should be under $10 anywhere in the States (not the XP). And A Baldwin should be about the same, if not less, unless you're going to Ackland's or something obscene like that.
 
There's probably as much old oil left in the galleries & various nooks and crannies as in the filter.
The filter gets more efficient with extended use.
Changing the filter is often a messy affair & it can be a relief to do it half as often.
My '88 Accord had 220k miles of 2x OCI oil changes when I sold it and the engine ran like new.
OTOH it was beginning to rust and electrical problems started cropping up.
Also, after I bought the Matrix I loaned it to a friend, who smoked cigars in it...

But that's thinking with logic and reasoning. Something that many people can't fathom.
 
Every time I change oil on the 13 Corolla (cartridge filter) I look closely at it. Never seen anything stuck in the pleats and it goes for 10k oci. Could've probably changed it once in 70k miles and been fine haha! But... I change it every time. Guilty.

To play devil's advocate...

If that is true, why would you want to double it by leaving the filter in place?

For me, once I'm under the car/truck, I'm not stopping half way. I have, but only on the farm trucks which I could have probably not even changed the oil bit did for good measure.

I am not saying they are bad. But I am questioning the wisdom of a $3 filter EVERY OCI over a higher quality filter changed less often. I mean, how good can a $3 filter really be? Thats the price of a box of kleenex.

So?
That's the point - it will not make one lick of difference to your engine or its lifespan.
One less messy filter to change and buy for every 2 or 3 oil changes - that will make a positive difference to my time and wallet.
 
I have a funny story. In 2005 I bought a used 2000 Camry with 26K miles on it. Guy never even drove it in the winter. He told me he ran synthetic oil for 5000 miles but he would change out the filter every 2500 miles. So in effect, he would change oil and filter, then at 2500, with the engine cold, swap out the filter for a new one and run with the same oil for the next 2500 miles. I suppose he was thinking his filter would clog before the last 2500 was done. Funny how peoples perceptions rule OVER real engineering data saying otherwise....

Next time turn your "bloomers" inside out and you can get an extra day use out of them!
