is the usual change betwen oil brands bad for any engine?

usually puts on it the one i find at my store, ALWAYS MINERAL OIL, 20W50 for my renault (factory recomend 20w50, very hot here, Venezuela)

i´ve putted M1, BP, Pennzzoil, Quaker State, etc.

PLAN TO MARRIED WITH CASTROL GTX 20w50,

My car have 95000 km (60000Mi aprox)

thanks for any advice

I've run about twelve different brands in my car so far. It shouldn't hurt a bit. Mixing may be another story but a complete oil and filter change should be fine.

First of all....

I've done the same thing and I don't believe its detrimental. As long as the different brand oils fall under current specs, you should be fine.

ok folks, thanks for your quick answers, ALWAYS change filter + oil , SL type, every 4500 Km.

Air Filter every third oil change

any other tip?

well, a little more dusty that ussual, i used change every two oils, but the air filter looked good.

plan to make my first third air change now, check at second and maybe blow it with air cop.

thanks

Yes, it is bad. The illustrius Terry has even said so. Different oils work differently. The best thing is to keep using the same brand of oil.

OTOH, you will probably never be able to detect the difference.

well, here is my country only find some GTX 20w50 or sintec 15w40 (or 10w40, can´t remember), for cost can´t afford the second one

Here in Peru we also get few choices in grades, the most common one is 20w50 (mobil xhp, castrol gtx, shell helix, chevron supreme) at about $15 gallon..the inly syn we see here are Mobil 1 15w50 and Castrol R 10w60 wich go as high as $40 gallon..after a lot of research in this site i started using chevron delo 15w40 and have excellent results, theres no reason to use such a heavy oil as the 20w50, u should find delo in venezuela.
El aceite mas delgado te va a proteger el motor durante el arranque en frio donde se produce el mayor desgaste..
