I need to restock my inventory of 7317 and 9972 sized filters.

I was previously using OE at $4-$5/filter, but am open to other options. These filters will be going into out-of-warranty vehicles for an OCI between 5-10K.

Primarily looking for value - do not mind spending a bit more. How are the Champ XL's compared to the "new" Ultra's? My price on the Champ is $4, Ultra is $7-8.

blufeb95 has it right. Below is a comparison of performance, price and construction. The primary difference is the Tough Guard uses fiber end caps on the media and the Champ XL uses steel.

Black ADBV? That’s interesting.
Mhm considering:

Champ XL synthetic oil filters are designed to work with today's engines that operate at higher temperatures with longer drain intervals that are specified by the engine manufacturers.

Features & Benefits:
  • High-efficiency synthetic blend media filters out even the smallest particulate
  • Durable steel shell (where applicable)
  • Specifically developed for use with synthetic oil products
  • High capacity provides longer service intervals
  • Protects engines in high temperature conditions
  • High-Strength Steel Baseplate
  • High lubricity gasket
  • Steel End Caps and Silicone Anti-Drainback Valves
  • Designed to meet or exceed engine requirements

Any way to update that document? The 2867 is only 3.57 at RockAuto.

Hi Tyman,
I can but here's what I struggle with and perhaps you can share your thoughts. Included in the price from Rockauto is $4.99 for shipping. I do this so that I'm accurate in what people will actually pay if they buy the filter alone as if they went into a retail store. If a person bundles some other items I've found the shipping charge stays constant.

That is true but then it is not the Champ XL. The base Champ oil filter uses a nitrile ADBV, efficiency is reduced to 95% and mileage life is reduced to 5k from the 15k of the XL
Refer to @JTK 's comment in post #10. He mentions running XL's, but his part # has a Black ADBV.

That is very strange and I don't have an answer. There is a 1 year old YouTube showing the ADBV is silicone, the Champ XL advertising and RockAuto descriptions also state silicone too. Can a silicone ADBV be black in addition to the orange color we typically see? I believe the Supertech's silicone ADBVs are blue.
