Castrol Syntec Blend 5-20

I just recently aquired 12 qts of Castrol Syntec Blend 5-20 through the old "Wal-Mart Shuffle".

On sale for $1.50, but actually came closer to $0.50 a quart.

The back circle symbol reads API Serivce SL, SAE 5-20, Energy Conserving.

But in small print to the left on the back label it reads.

"EXCEEDS:
API Service SM/SL/SJ/SH
ISLAC GF-4,3,2
FORD WSS-M2C930-A
Ford WSS-M2C153-H"

Why does it list API SL on the circle symbol, but API SM on the small print on the side?

Has anyone used this before?

What are your thoughts on this oil in a '01 Grand Marq 4.6 w/ 24k miles, and maybe a '96 CrownVic w/ 143k miles.

My friend has a Honda Civic that needs 5-20, I may sell it to him when he needs oil changed though.

Your thoughts please.

The oil met SM requirements before the spec was actually in effect therefore they could not call it SM until the actual date that SM went into effect. It is good oil. It can be used in the '01 Grand Marquis and the '96 Crown Vic models with the 4.6 motor from 1992 to the present.

I use Motorcraft 5w20 in the Merq now.

How does Syntec Blend compare to it?

check the uoa lots of good results for syntec blend. don't know if any were 5w20.

It should be a very good oil. I'd use it in anything where a 5w20 is recommended.

There are several used oil analysis with this product. I have never seen a bad UOA with Syntec Blend. It seems to be pretty good oil.

Good move Islandvic.I use castrol when i don't use Motorcraft.Just as good or better when it comes to semi/syn oil.

I probably will use the Castrol, may have to do another "shuffle" and aquire some more before it disapears.
