Mobil Super

Mobil Passenger Vehicle Lube, United States

Premium Motor Oil

Product Description

Mobil Super is formulated from high quality base oils combined with modern performance additives to help provide long engine life and protect critical engine parts from lubricant related failures for up to 5,000 miles or your vehicle’s OEM recommended oil change interval, whichever is longer.* Additionally, Mobil Super 5W-20, 5W-30, and10W-30 are synthetic blend motor oils.

These oils contain 15% extra cleaning additive versus Mobil Special to help protect against sludge and engine deposits. Additionally, pour point depressants and a viscosity index (VI) improver are included in the product, where required, to provide the optimum viscosity and fluidity across a broad range of temperatures.

Mobil Super is available in four multi-viscosity grades: SAE 5W-20, 5W-30, 10W-30, and 10W-40.

Mobil Super 5W-20, 5W-30 and 10W-30 contain friction-reducing additives. The American Petroleum Institute (API) classifies these viscosity grades (5W-20, 5W-30 and 10W-30) as "Resource Conserving" engine lubricants and these viscosity grades meet or exceed ILSAC GF-5 / API SN. Those claims are backward compatible with earlier performance levels such as API SM, SL, and SJ and previous ILSAC categories.

Features and Benefits
•Helps extend engine life
•Proven protection of critical engine parts from lubrication related failure for 5,000 miles or your vehicle’s OEM recommended oil change interval, whichever is longer.*
•Outstanding wear protection under a wide variety of operating conditions
•15% extra cleaning additive to help prevent the formation of sludge and harmful deposits versus Mobil Special oils
•Enhanced formulation versus Mobil Special oils
•Meets or exceeds the latest industry specifications (API SN / ILSAC GF-5: Mobil Super 5W-20, 5W-30 and 10W-30)
•API SN / Resource Conserving (Mobil Super 5W-20, 5W-30 and 10W-30)
•Easy cold starting.

Applications

Mobil Super 5W-20, 5W-30 and 10W-30 are recommended for gasoline fueled automobiles and light duty trucks requiring an API SN, SM, SL or SJ. They also meet the latest ILSAC GF-5 (Starburst Certification Symbol) specification.

Mobil Super 10W-40 is recommended for gasoline fueled automobiles and light duty trucks where a higher viscosity API SN, SM, SL or SJ oil is preferred or recommended.

Before using Mobil Super motor oils, consult the owner's manual of the vehicle for the manufacturer's recommended viscosity grade and API Service Classification.

seems like Chevron Supreme, it's a blend (in 5w-20 and 5w-30 flavors) but not marketed as such

Just like Valvoline Daily Protection, Havoline Conventional and Castrol GTX Ultraclean. They don't mention "blend" on the container but do so in the PDS. Ultraclean actually makes no distinction on the containers whatsoever.

Most if not all 5W20, 5W30 conventional oils are a syn/blend. Not all conventional 10W30 oils are a blend however it's nice to see that Mobil Super is.

You can search the ExxonMobil MSDS site and it will tell you the approximate amounts of Group III, GTL, and PAO. It doesn't tell you the POE and AN though, as they are not considered hazardous.

This said, Mobil Super conventional 5W-20 and 5W-30 are 5 - 10% Group III and 10W-30 is 1 - 5% Group III.

Assuming that the base oil is about 75 - 80% of the oil, 5W-20 and 5W-30 are about 10% synthetic blend and 10W-30 is about 3% synthetic blend.

Mobil clean 5000 sounds like.. Good stuff would run that back in the day in my 2008 Sonata for 6 months or 7500

The trouble with API-compliant oils labelled "Synthetic Blend" is API doesn't specify that the manufacturer is required to meet any particular ratios; you don't know how much is conventional and how much is synthetic. If comparison shopping treat as full conventional.

I don't know if I can say this correctly but, humor me for a minute.

1) This is what I heard(Amsoil video), that with conventional oils, in order to meet the API spec in these lower grades(5W20/5W30 or 10W30), the blender/ or oil manufacture themselves needed(not required to) but needed to put in just that little bit of synthetic oil in order to meet the spec. They weren't told to do this but, that little bit of synthetic oil(~ 5%) got them there.

2) In order to be called a synthetic blend oil, the API requires at least ~7% synthetic oil in the mix in order to be marketed as such.

Did I say this right?

This video, if I can find the right one, also talks about the different base oils in synthetic oils(Grp III, IV & V) but doesn't talk specifically about syn/blends however, makes mention of them.
