CE have a 0w30 on their UK website but it has a VI IIRC of only 169. Heck that's lower than the orginal green GC!

I guess you're saying they don't make a 0W-40 yet but I'm sure they must?

But since it has a lower 100C vis at 8.34 cSt vs 8.85 cSt for the 0W-20 grade it better be cheaper and/or a lot more shear resistant otherwise it is a redundant product made for marketing purposes only.

Agree on that.

I haven't take a sample yet. Probably in the next week or so. 10,000 miles of every extreme condition.

I wonder if it would be possible to see one with a 40c viscosity of 30-35cst? (while still having a 100c viscosity of around 8 to 8.5)

Back in Dec' byez posted a 8,000 km used oil analysis on the Toyota 0W-20 from a Tundra. The 100C vis had sheared to 8.0cSt.
I don't think we will see 40C vis spec's down in the 30-35cSt range anytime soon and still maintain a 8.0cSt plus 100C spec.
It would have been interesting to have seen the 40C vis in the byez used oil analysis. If the oil maintained it's 214 VI then theoretically the 40C vis would have been under 35cSt. But that's not what happens usually when an oil shears as the VI usually drops.

rcy, said he was going to have his Toyota used oil analysis done shortly by Wearcheck and as you know they perform both 40C and 100C vis tests so we'll get one example of what happens to Toyota's VI in service.

If this oil is in fact loaded with Moly like the Honda and Toyota oils are, it is a score. Hopefully AAP will stock it, and it becomes part of their OC specials with a Pure One filter would be fine! As always seeing UOA would be nice, they are just around the corner for the Toyota oil. Knowing this group an Castrol EDGE 0W20 VOA is on its way. JMO

Probably sooner rather than later we will see it given the increasing use of 0W20 in new car engines in NAmercia.

Sure, there is CE 0w-40, just not sold in the US.

What I'm saying is there is no CE in the US that meets any of the European mfg specs. I'll stick with GC for now.

That being the case, CE 5W-20 vis' spec's are almost identical to Pennzoil Platinum 0w20 with a similar low 40C vis' of 42.6cSt and high VI. Technically it appears to have an "edge" over all 5W-20's and many 0W-20 currently available if you want a 20wt with a low start-up viscosity.

The 0w-20 is listed on the American Castrol website. I'm sure it will show up on the shelves pretty soon.

That's Amsoil ASM I think. The 40C number for the Toyota oil is better, my guess is Edge will be better too.
