Just changed the oil on my 2011 Hyundai Sonata Turbo 2.0T. Changed from Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30 to Castrol European Formula 0W-40. The Penzoil Platinum is a good oil, but the Castrol seems to be even better.

This may be the best oil on the market. The engine is much quieter and when it accelerates, it is smooth silk. The car just hit 105K mostly highway driving. But there was a difference in idle and acceleration.

Just thought I would share my own observations, I am using the Castrol 0W-40 and Hyundai OEM Filter and it runs like new. I was able to get it on AMAZON for like $23.97, which I think is a steal. Great Oil. Plan on going 5K to 6K on 0W-40.

Thoughts on the Castrol 0W-40???

I've gone from Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5w-40 to Castrol Edge HM 10w-40 in my 530i. I can't say that I feel any difference in noise or smoothness. Both are good products, IMO.

I'm guessing your engine "likes" the thicker 40 weight oil per se (which some engines are spec'd for). I'd keep on using it.

Yep, since it is a Turbo, the owner's manual says it is recommended to have 5W-30 or 5W-40. 0W-40 works even better. I think from my research, that that 0W-40 is a little thinner 40 oil compared to others. But seems to be a great oil. My best friend has ran this oil in his 2000 BMW for years and had great results. Think I can easily go 5k to 6k on this oil.

In Wall Mary you can get it for $25 or during rollback for $22.
As for oil, it is much better then regular synthetics like Pennzoil 5W30 or M1 5W30 that are spec.d for most Japanese and American cars.
Visit Euro section on this forum since this oil is used primarily by people who drive Euro cars. There is A LOT of chat about it.
I used it for years, and it is doing its job great.

I missed where you posted the dB readings and 0-60 times....on new and used Pennzoil and new and used Castrol....

There is nothing strange in smoother engine. Castrol 0W40 is heavier oil compare to Platinum 5W30 which is lighter the Euro 5W30, not to mention W40.
Also, Catstrol 0W30/40 (same formula) is known as smooth oil even when you compare to oils such as M1 0W40 etc.

As for acceleration, that is debatable and I would say he will loose negligible time due to heavier oil and much higher HTHS which again is most important number for turbo engines. In the long run 0W40 is much better choice, but compare to Platinum 5W30 he will lose negligible time in acceleration and take a hit on MPG.
