I was just curious what everyone thinks of this blend. 5 quarts of Castrol Edge (black bottle) 0w-40 and 3.5 quarts Edge (black bottle) 0w-20. This would be to get a SN 0w30 ish with somewhat elevated levels of ZDDP. I know everyone usually blends Mobil 1 0w-40. Just a different route to a 0w30 blend. Primary use would be in my Magnacharged 2012 Mustang GT. With oil cooler it hold 8.5 quarts.

Best thing to do is, sent in a virgin sample of the mix and compare it afterwards to your UOA sample.

You mention it is supercharged. What does the supercharger company recommend? I don't think you need elevated levels of ZDDP.
The GT500 specs 5w50, IIRC. I bet you'd do fine with something like Mobil 1 0w40, though the 5w50 could work too. I think Motorcraft makes one.
Otherwise, if you need a 30, try Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w30.

Magnuson does not get into engine oil recommendations. Ford specified 5w-20. I have been using Mobil 1 0w30 or 5w30 for a good while now. The car is at 43.5k miles.
Castrol's own 0w30 is one of the best syns available, has elevated zddp already and would most likely perform better and more predictably than your blend.

I too like to blend but in this case I think you'd be going to a lot of trouble and expense to go backwards.

Yeah, the old GC SL has been around a long time. Just looking at cheaper and easy blend. The black bottle Edge can be had in 5 quart jugs at China mart for about $21.50. That makes a blend a good bit cheaper. I can say that the Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w30 is good stuff.
