Carcarenut picks M1 over TGMO for GR Corolla

It's obvious that Toyota (and every other mfgr) cuts corners where they think the owner won't notice or care. That is the case here. In fact, this is textbook. The owner of this 3-cylinder, 300 horsepower, 5 second road rocket doesn't even do his own oil changes. Do you think he knows quality cars have seals and insulation and hydraulic prop rods? He probably doesn't know how to open the hood. And the mechanic he took it to is calling the dealership for information? Something is amiss here.

It's a fabulous car... but it's a Corolla. Until they bring back the front engine, rear wheel drive Corolla GT-S, everything else will be a grocery getter.

Its a brand new engine and car. Nothing wrong with checking and making sure you have the correct info

Considering how many Toyotas are on the road today .... some aspect of quality has to exist

Also, the price is a little up there because Toyota isn't mass producing these.

Makes sense since the engine is BMW but the GR Corolla is a Toyota engine
Yes.
They introduced GR oils with Supra. It is LL17FE oil. In Europe Toyota uses off the shelf oils to meet BMW diesel engines requirements in their vehicles.
He is not using it probably bcs. there is a premium price on it as it is “GR” oil. In BMW dealership that same oil is probably cheaper.

Makes sense to me. Euro engines require euro spec oil which is why every oil brand has a euro spec oil

The GR is a techie marvel, and really a rally car converted for dd use. The issue though, and similar vehicles like the Type R have the exact problem is that with ADMs WHY? At some asking prices, their exist much faster, much more luxurious offerings.

Yes at sticker its a great deal, especially as project cars programs start getting axed for EV development in the future.

In regards to the oil issue, why is this such a big deal? If the person is going to be using the vehicle as designed on events, fine, but if its a daily or limited mall cruiser as long as it meets the spec keep it moving. Plus under the care of TCCN, I assume they will be regularly maintaining better then most other owners.

It’s not a big deal but the thickies and mofties love to attack anything less than a 30 grade or a certain HTHS level. Plus it’s a 3 banger with a turbo.

I believe BMW also makes a turbo 3 banger. Won’t hear much about that.
Easy now Captain Broad Brush, we can discuss that subject and acknowledge the studies done on it and the different points where some of this becomes important, while not unilaterally labelling everybody who participates in those discussions as lubrication luddites who refuse to "jive step" with the new wave noodle mistress cuz she doesn't have the curves and cushion.

Not worth it.

Let me be the first to ask... what is a wave noodle mistress? That sounds a bit freaky.

And in the context of our discussion, 0W-20 might be a heavy oil for Toyota. Aren't they specifying 0W16 in some hybrids?
