I want to ask a question, be it dumb or not, why is it that my dad and I have noticed a huge difference swapping from Dino to Synthetic. Let me explain, after 2 oci's with synthectic the car's feel alot "looser" or "smoother". Could this be that synthetics have an add pack that cleans the engine, are synthetics thinner than Dino therefore getting into all of the nooks and cranny's and cleaning out all of the old oil? On my car I'm running Mobil1 10w 30 at 3k OCI, and on my dads van I'm running Mobil1 5w 30 at a 5k OCI. Is this typical for synthetics?

I'm not sure why they feel smoother, but that is a good thing to feel. Whether it's true or make-believe, at least you're happy! Mine runs very smooth on synthetic valvoline, however that's all I've ever put in it.

A lot of my synthetic oil customers tell me the same thing. Some have told me their wives asked them what they did to their car as it runs better. "Just an oil change". I'm always amazed, but no longer suprised.

Ristrider, is there a reason you are only running a 3K OCI on M1 in your vehicle? What vehicle is this? I would think you could extend your OCI out to at least 5K with this oil (of course with a UOA).

I don't really know about synthetics but I have noticed how a vehicle runs different on different brands and weights. I'm pretty much a conventional oil user though.

I think they do, but a lot of folks say they don't. All I know is that my valve springs and rocker arms have gone from brown to a nice clean gun metal grey. I attribute that to the fantastic detergents of Valvoline MaxLife.

Someone tell me if this is what they noticed too, but in my van which I just begain using synthetic Mobil 1 in at 76k, I've noticed that while in cruse control and going up steep hills, I get less fluctuation in the tac. The engins seems to sustain a more constant RPM. Is this due to the synthetic oil you think?

Perhaps it's just shear or something. My cars always seem to run smooth just after an oil change. Maybe it's just new oil.....

My car runs much smoother and is alot more responsive on Synth, especially when the engine is good and hot. Quieter, smoother, and hits the powerband at the touch of the throttle.

The thicker M1 15W50 works best in my engine out of all the oils I`ve tried, especially once it`s at warm operating temperature.

Because my car burns a quart of oil every 2k, and with it having over 2k, and knowing the previous owners did not care for it as they should have, I feel safer following the 3k oci on my car.

My butt dino gave us similar results.

When I switched the wifes 4 cyl. Kia over to 5W20 PP from 5W20 Valvoline dino she even made a comment about how the car seemed "more alive".

Now, my wife usually doesn't know the difference with anything. But when she noticed this I then knew I wasn't complelty "full of it".

More than likely it's all in your head. You may tell a difference when switching viscosity, but I can't imagine being able to feel a difference from running synthetic.

BTW, with 3k mile OCIs you should be running conventional oil. You will see no benefit running synthetic at those intervals unless we are talking about a turbo etc...

My car runs 10 times better with the synthetics, especially at startup. It is a 5 Speed 96 Subaru, and it revs much more freely with the clutch pushed in. With no load, any additional loss in resistance whether it is lower viscosity at startup or just being more slippery by nature are more noticeable. The wife asked me if it had gotten a tune up, because she didn't have to press the pedal as hard in the mornings.
