So this one dealer ignores Toyota's TSB then? It ignores the owners manual? The FSM? The head office just doesn't mean a whole lot to this dealer?

I guess that you can blow off any impression you have from the TSB then too. They don't have to do it ..

Yeah, But IF you dare to run anything other than what the manual states, they will be the FIRST to give you c r a p but if you take in it to them, their stamp is ok.

Another reason why I do ALL my services on my vehicles. I DO think that they (the MFG) know better what should be used in a vehicle, but the stealership knows even more (Ie how to maximize their profit)

I've got to go to the local Ford dealership in the next few days and will check what they have for oil...

If you have been using 5-30 for 118k and that is the mfg spec weight,I certainly would not now go to 5-20. Use the weight oil specd by the mfg. Hey,you can spend all you want on "better" 5-30.

I HAVE A 2005 RAV 4 AND USE 1 QUART 5W-20 AND 3 QUARTS OF 5w30 IN THE WINTER. I DON'T DO used oil analysis. AN OIL CHANGE IS CHEAPER. I LIVE IN CONNECTICUT AND USUALLY PUT THAT MIX IN THE ENGINE IN EARLY DECEMBER AND RUN IT TO MARCH, THEN CHANGE IT. I HAVE NO PROBLEMS, CONSIDERING THE TEMPS ARE AT THERE COLDEST IN THAT TIME FRAME HERE. I LOOK AT IT AS THINNING FOR THE WINTER. I EVEN RUN A 10w30, 1 QUART AND THE REST 5w30 IN THE SUMMER. AGAIN, JUST TO THICKEN THE OIL. NO PROBLEMS YET. KEEP THE OIL CHANGES REASONABLE AND THERE SHOULDN'T BE PROBLEMS. I WOULD RATHER HAVE 5W-20 IN THE ENGINE THEN NO OIL AT ALL. SEEN THAT IN A FEW TRACTOR TRAILER TRUCKS WHERE I USE TO WORK. PULL THE DIP STICK AND NOTHING IS ON IT. 1 1/2 GALLONS LATER. WHAT GOOF BALLS.

I WRITE IN CAPS TOO SEE IT BETTER.
