I know it is better to use vw502 oil.But that oil is expensive here. Can this car use A3/B3/B4 with shorter OCI?Thank you.

Not much difference of A3 and VW 502. Any 5w-40 is good. If not drive hard, 5w-30 synthetic is ok. Oil temp must stay low = +100C for 5w-30. Good if cold outside too.

A3/B4 is synthetic or at least a blend.
A3/B3 oil can be mineral or blend.

If not VW502 I would choose A3/B4.

Use Castrol's 5W40 Syntec. AutoZone has it. It meets all of VW's oil requirements for gas and diesel engines. I use it in mine.

No AutoZone in China. No Castrol 5W-40 Syntec here but we have Castrol Magnatec 5W-40.Can we use it?It don't meet vw502.

Magnatec is a semi-synth in UK. Usually any 5w-40 is full synthetic and 1.8t can use any 5w-40. Does Magnatec say A3?

For a Passat with the 1.8T engine, Castrol recommends on their German website:

Castrol Edge 0W-30, 15000 km/12 months
Castrol Edge 5W-30, 15000 km/12 months
Castrol Edge Formula RS 0W-40, 15000 km/12 months
