Yes, the I4 has a timing chain.

The only odd thing about Kitacam was that the 1st owner burned through the clutch, and the indie mechanic botched the rebuild....the 1st owner gave up and traded up, and I got it after the dealer put in the 3rd....along with master and slave cyl. and accumulator...after 7k miles the clutch is still smooth as silk as it should, and should be for the rest of the car's life....(I went through the clutch on my last car, a 99 Altima after 185k miles)...

So can you let this rest? (yes the camaro ss should have EASILY won but he didn't)

But you posted it in this thread

And the comments on Youtube are irrelevant. The car MPH'd what a V6 Camaro MPH's, even with the worst launch in the world, the car would still run a decent MPH, I know this because I've done plenty of runs on street tires. You can cut a horrific ET due to wheelspin but the MPH always reflects the power output of the car (unless he intentionally let off before the end of the track, but then he's not really racing now is he?

) so I stand by my statement, as somebody who has not only been to many a drag race but having done a fair bit of it myself. To give you an idea, my '88 Town Car ET'd bottom 16's at ~88Mph. On street tires my Mustang would run anything from a bottom 14 to a low 15, but the MPH was always ~100.

Truth. I have a few passes at the strip myself, and hung there ALL the time as a kid.

ET never tells as much as trap speed, it takes skill to get a good ET. But somehow, even though it is counter-intuitive, the trap speed is a remarkably good indicator of real HP. Highly accurate, as anybody who visits Wallace Racing and uses their calculators can attest.

That is so obviously a V6 Camaro it just seems silly that we spent this much time arguing it. Nice try Gen San, but some of us have actually done our homework...ON THE STRIP!

Thank you for that information, and Kitacam, too. It looks like the I4 and the V6 both are chain driven.

The more time I'm spending with this I4 rental, the more time I realize it is probably the better choice. Acceleration is smooth by only revving out to around 2,800RPM. And 2k at 70MPH is pretty good, I imagine the V6 would probably be at 1800 or so... IDK how i misspelled braking, but the I4 brakes noticeably better than any of the V6s I've driven.

Insurance for the V6 for me is $2333, while the I4 is only $2140 (compared to the $2054 I pay now), so that is somewhat important in this decision too, along with the extra gas, it looks like the V6 would add up to about 70-80 a month more, and for more miles on the car to start.

While I do love that smooth effortless pull of the V6, I agree that the 4cyl has plenty of power to comfortably accelerate (much more so than V6s of yesteryear, as some have said), and the extra gas milage will come in handy if gas goes up further.

As for the other stuff in this thread, my goal with the SE V6 was never for speed, as much as a firm yet comfortable ride with good pull. If the Camaro discussion must continue, can it please go into a new thread haha.

Thanks again to all that replied.

I think this topic needs the youtube video of the Carmy V6 vs Magnum PI's Ferrari. I think Overkill will go completely nuts if you post it.

They probably use the same brakes despite the weight difference.

Why? It was only 240HP (and that's 1977 240HP), it should get absolutely spanked by a Camry and most other V6 sedans

OMG, off topic? Evidently you could get shot around here.

Better bring LOTS of ammo...

Why is Ferrari even being discussed here? Is OP trying to decide between the Ferrari and Camry? Was he considering M5 either?

Weren't you the one who brought up the Ferrari? LOL

I guess sarcasm is hard to convey on the internet but your M5 dragged my Ferrari in to this discussion.

Now that you are back in here, I suspect the OP was not considering SRT8 either when you got in this fray.

Why in the world simple question over which Camry to select turns in to who has the biggest urinary throw contest?

I don't think the performance of anyones personal vehicle was ever debated, Vikas (outside of Camry owners when the actual topic was being discussed).

Keep working it, man you are like the energizer! I'm sure you also know that you are not the thread police either.

We need Freud to figure out why M5/SRT8 owner gets so emotional when other people are discussing a Camry. Compensating too much for lack of something??

I never mentioned my car in this thread. Go back and take a look.

Wait, so because I have an M5 (which I didn't mention in this thread BTW, YOU mentioned MY car... so if there is some form of phallic envy here I think we know who it points to) my opinion regarding the Camry is not relevant?

That's quite amusing!

The car debate I DID get into in this thread involved the Camaro SS and the Camry V6. But I guess I'm not allowed to comment on either because they both aren't my DD right? Ridiculous! I would have left my comments at "choose the V6" had GenSan not posted the video of and then gone on about the V6 Camry supposedly being faster than a Camaro SS. Where were you in your Gestapo garb then sir?

That being said, none of us answer to you, so you can get your panties all wadded up and start tossing insults around all you like but at the end of the day you have no real control over who partakes in these discussions. And I think your nonsense in this thread is particularly amusing since none of us had made any mention of our current personal vehicles in comparison to the Camry in this thread, it was you who first mentioned them. Wonder why that is? If we are still speaking to the relevance of Freud here

Cars, like PCs, often come with bloatware that hobble performance, or makers just don't configure them for speed but rather for stability...that's why modding both is not unusual...

It's been over 10 years since Toyo marketed a 6cyl/MT Camry and I think Toyo should get that combo back on the street...it would be fun, something Toyo's missing right now...
