"Faster" could mean a lot of things. A V-6 Camry might beat my stock GTI to 60 mph by .2 seconds, but take that same car to an autocross, track day, or curvy mountain back-road and "faster" is not the word I'd use to describe it.

Anyway, it's irrelevant. People don't buy Camrys because they want to go fast and hot hatch owners don't buy hot hatches because they intend to be a seriously legitimate threat at a drag strip.




Alright so... he passed a Miata, a Spec Racer Ford that was clearly on a cool down lap, a 25 year old BMW, a last gen Civic Si, and he had to push his car so hard that it wasn't even safe to drive home?

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make.

I've been to the track enough times to know that anything can be fast in the right hands. But if you put a better car in those same hands, like one that comes with tires that don't disintegrate in 20 minutes with brakes that don't melt in the same period of time, they're going to go faster.

Actually, I was agreeing with you. LOL,

It was showing how the Camry can do it, but it's not even close to ideal or sensible to do so. In fact, it's got to be one of the dumbest things you can do with a Camry, let alone a budget family sedan.

However, that video is proof enough that with a decent set of rubber it can hold it's own.

The Camaro SS doesn't run 14's at 87 MPH (yes, you would be correct to infer that I'm stating that the car in the video isn't an SS). But apparently the V6 Camry runs 14.3@90Mph, which puts it about 3 tenths and 10Mph slower than my bone-stock '87 Mustang GT T-Top ran with 280,000Km on it. AWESOME!!!

I would note however that, even with a slightly lower MPH, the ET for the Camaro is in-line with the V6 offering, which should run mid to low 14's at 90-95Mph. An SS is high 12's at 108-110Mph.

It's all in good fun. Buddy rode that Camry HARD. You are right, they aren't fair to compare, but I did think it was interesting to see two different in-cabin views of that track from very different cars.

Oh certainly, it can be a brick around corners and with that much horsepower it could still hold its own.

I bet it would be fun to put some real tires on it and get a set of brake pads that can hold a bit more heat.

I was just indicating that what you were trying to illustrate with that video was wrong. A Camry V6 would get destroyed by a Camaro SS.

Dude, seriously? You posted a car running at 5,280ft as "proof"

run the Camry there, it'll be running high 16's or 17's considering in the video you posted it was running about what it should be running (with a slower MPH than what the C&D article indicated BTW) at New England dragway, which is only 121.4ft.

BTW, Motortrend has the Camry 1/4 as 14.3 @ 93 mph.

This site lists it as 14.6 @ 97Mph.

The MPH seems to vary wildly but appears to be usually under 100Mph and the ET at around the mid 14 mark.

Why do you assume I take things personally? I'm not bothered by this conversation or that you attempted to illustrate a point that wasn't accurate. I simply corrected it. I'd recommend the V6 too, it is a reasonably quick car.
