I'm rotten at energy use calculations, so I'm hoping someone can help me out.

I'm looking at a small hydroponic unit to try growing some vegetables at home for me and my dog.

CropKing tells me the light unit draws 42 watts, and needs to be on for 18 hours per day.

My local utility company charges 0.16 kWh.

How much will it cost me per day, and per month, to run this little unit to grow veggies?

Thank you! Happy Thanksgiving!

.756kw(day) x .16 or about 12 cents.

but greater question where in California is electricity 16cents a kwh?
I live in the greater Sacramento area, and my utility provider is: https://www.smud.org/ I pay differing rates, based on "Summer" versus "Winter", but right now...my rate is 0.16 per kWh during the "peak" hours of 5:00pm-8:00pm.

Thank you!

Is that for indoors? That'll be a neat project.
Yes!

In MY case, I'll probably take it to my office and put it on the desk in my cubicle. It won't take up much space and my office is pretty "climate controlled" which would be great for the growth of my veggies. I just have to make sure to keep the buzzards...um...I mean "co-workers" (Freudian slip there) from poaching my veggies. But...we have security cameras! If that's not good enough, I will use water filtered from my home, reverse osmosis system for my veggies.
