86 Cad with Olds 307 V8. 145k miles. A-rx at 120k and lube control and FP per directions since. Pennzoil 10w30. Engine runs great. Even passes emission tests.
Lifter ticking at start up just began. Goes away when oil is warm. Owners manual (written when Ronald Reagan was President) calls for 10w30.
My question is what oil to use, lc yes or no, and what change interval especially in winter is good. I have been doing 3k. Thanks

Did you do the over 100k Auto-Rx treatment ..that is two back to back? The cold tick indicates that you still have restricted oil flow to that lifter. I had one stubborn tick that took three treatments to remedy to my satisfaction.

A snth would probably reduce or eliminate this condition, but I get the impression that this is not a vehicle that sees a lot of mileage on a daily/weekly/quarterly basis (as most don't after 100k) so it may not quite make sense to use one (GC, M1, etc) from an economic stand point.

Yes I did the double treatment. Huge performance/ driveability difference too!
Good thoughts on your part. Maybe I'll do it again when the cold breaks. Would the LC have any effect on this?

Try another round of auto-rx....or the LC flush.

Otherwise, you may wish to try a synth. diesel oil to clean things out...eg. Delvac 1 or a thinner than 10W lube...eg. 0-30 (eg. GC).

Sounds like a stuck lifter. I have the same issue in my BMW.
