Buy some postage stamps to help with the crisis! I just bought $55 worth of stamps to help out in keeping the post office alive. These are forever stamps, so why not?

I'll pass since:

a) I only go through maybe 5 stamps a year

b) Why would I go out of my way pay extra to support an insolvent federal agency that gets funded by the egregiously high taxes we already pay?

Post office would be solvent except for decades of oversight and the retiree funding requirements. Even though our constitution provides for it, many politicians/people would like to privatize it and in doing so, imo, make it much more costly for us to mail a letter. For those who don't care about the watering down of the constitution, do you own firearms?

I don't use many stamps, either. Maybe 20-25 a year, mostly to send in Menards rebates. But the postal service is self-supported , unless/until they are bailed out. I buy my stamps from Costco and only buy when I need them. One book lasts me two years at least.

I'm curious why you think that. How much do you think Congress actually gives to the post office every year?

Correct; else it would be usps.gov instead of usps.com.

This is a accurate so long as there is not federal bailout as a result of the Covid19 pandemic. If Congress could get their heads out of their butts and void the requirement for the USPS to pre-fund employee health benefit and pension costs, the financial picture would be much different for the Postal Service. Still with declining mail volumes and rising costs, the slide will continue.

And for those who think privatizing the Postal Service is the answer, obviously you don't live in the hinterlands of the USA where the Postal Service delivers six days a week, sometimes by boat, seaplane or snowmobile. A private or public corporation could never do that.

So buy a couple books of Forever stamps. They don't go bad.

The real question is why people still think they get money from Congress when that hasn't been true since the 80's.

Support you local small business that might actually fail. Buying stamps to prop up the USPS is literally one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

I bought couple sheets of twenty last week, and a birthday card. Support them as much as I can, great service and essential. What countries have no postal service, even the poor ones do.

I do support local business. I sent $200 to the girl that cuts my hair and told her to file for unemployment. She had no idea that she could do that as she's a contractor. Most of them are contractors. If you lose the United States Postal Service you will find that it cost a lot more to send letters. They are required to hit every address for $.55. My wife still likes to send Christmas cards so I pre-bought her stamps. I also found Purple Heart stamps that I bought for my brother-in-law.

I initiated this post because a lot of people on another post were talking that they didn't need the check from the USA. I also do not need it. I think in times like this we need to give back.

This.

I agree its best to support the local businesses at this point. The USPS is not like it was when they filmed the movie Miracle on 34th Street. Its just a bloated PRIVATE business who's management gets very well paid and compensated while your postal delivery person gets squat! They have squandered the pension, health care benefits and other needed monies over many, many years! Every time they run short they cry, mess with the little guy and not the management. They have had their hands out for as long as I can remember.
