changing oil on my 99 Saab 9-3 hit my wrist on the catalytic converter which is right next to the oil pan/ drain plug. nice 2nd degree burn. maybe I should change the oil cold next time instead of letting it warm up for 10 minutes LOL

Yep, I've been doing my changes stone cold for a long time. 0W20 for the win in below-freezing conditions.

My '99 Camry has the oil filter under the exhaust manifold. Much safer to do cold!

Edit: hope your burn heals fast.

For normal exhaust pipe in the way … I have used header wrap to protect other components … so would work for a tight & risky area too …

funny you should mention that , i did the same thing last weekend ..burned my hand on a hot flex pipe...at 66 years old you would think I'd know better but i guess not,,, might take a few more years for me to learn....lol

I usually try to change the oil warm, but let it sit up on ramps for 15min for the exhaust to cool.

if its one of the vehicles that you have to thread your arm around the engine terribly.. cold is the way to go.

Get one of these and save your skin;

I like your profile pic and wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment. Rims on a truck is just... wrong, against nature, unnatural, misconfigured, ugly and dysfunctional...

Or you could get a nomex/kevlar sleeve that race team mechanics wear. Youcan get them from Sumit or Jegs.

Happened to me too. Took 2 weeks to heal & the longest time for the scar to disappear.
