I had gloves but hit my wrist just above the glove cuff. Need longer gloves!Change it hot, and gloves are your friend.,,,
catalyst cools down quicker than the oil in the pan, next time wait a bit after warming up the oilchanging oil on my 99 Saab 9-3 hit my wrist on the catalytic converter which is right next to the oil pan/ drain plug. nice 2nd degree burn. maybe I should change the oil cold next time instead of letting it warm up for 10 minutes LOL
I like your profile pic and wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment. Rims on a truck is just... wrong, against nature, unnatural, misconfigured, ugly and dysfunctional...I usually try to change the oil warm, but let it sit up on ramps for 15min for the exhaust to cool.
if its one of the vehicles that you have to thread your arm around the engine terribly.. cold is the way to go.

Or you could get a nomex/kevlar sleeve that race team mechanics wear.
