Burger King Whopper

We moved to Kamloops in 1974, which already had a McDonald's, out in Valleyview. (If I recall correctly, the "odometer" at that time read "OVER 12 MILLION SERVED".) A second one opened, this one in North Kamloops, in September 1976. Dad was given three free passes to opening day, and gave them to me.

I took two buddies to the all-you-can-eat gala. The three of us ate mightily - I likely went for my usual hat trick - a Big Mac, a QP with cheese, and a Filet-O-Fish. I was a bottomless pit back then.
Are you still living in Kamloops?
Its a city i might consider moving to if and when i leave Vancouver.
I visited about 3 times, last time about 11 years ago.
Kamloops has grown to 110, 000 pop. And i think that is very good size , giving everything one could need .
My only thing is the frickin Cold winters and hot summers, it take some adjustment.
My first choice would be Penticton, or Summerland, Vernon, Peachland....but the cost of living is much more in the Okanagan, so maybe i freeze my butt off lol.
Kamloops has very friendly people and decent drivers, good shopping, cheaper car insurance and gas, nice outdoors stuff to go explore....decisions!

The first McDonald's opened in Regina on Albert St (the main N-S drag) in May or June 1970.

The parents took me and my sister there on a Sunday evening. We young folks loved it. I had a Big Mac. The parental units were not impressed.
We went to the one in Yorkton as teenagers. I knew instantly the Big Mac was a winner. They had Styrofoam containers back then. They’re still circling the Pacific to this day, :D

I moved out here (to Winnipeg) in '78 "for a year" because at the time the college did not offer courses beyond 2nd year. (Cariboo College ultimately morphed into Thompson Rivers University, and is a fully accredited school now.)

I don't recall the winters as being very cold, but I had previously lived in Winnipeg, Regina, and Edmonton. I flew out to Kamloops in November and January, and it was balmy compared to here!

The summers were hot, but not humid.

At the time I couldn't wait to get out of Kamloops.

My sister has since moved back there, and when we visit Kamloops now seems quite idyllic. There is lots of great hiking, some decent cycling trails, and excellent skiing (cross-country and downhill) in the area.

I guess , for me , living in Vancouver all my life, everywhere else in Canada, cept Victoria, will be cold. And hot summers.
I had a coworker moved to Kamloops over 12 years ago, when i visited him he seemed to really like it there.
And my cousin moved there with his wife, bought a very nice home, plus one for his daughter. He has the money, could of moved anywhere, picked Kamloops.
I could adjust to Kamloops weather, i like change of seasons, the snow would be a novelty for me.
Long hot summers, they all have cold AC everywhere, in cars, homes, malls, restaurants, so not so bad.
I would miss the beaches and Pacific Ocean in Vancouver...lol.

When our animals get to hospice and last rights are given they get a BK Whopper. Convicts usually get a last meal so why shouldn't the best friend a man could ever have? 🤔 A dog 🐕 will give you patience when you dont have it, pray for it, or try to buy it off Amazon with your Prime membership. Ive been awoken by a Beagle 🐕 grunting and licking me with true love and affection. She is my boo; my comrade, my best friend. My hope is to make it to the pearly gates and have Almighty inform me that someone has been waiting for you to walk her and scratch her ears and rub her belly. ❤️🥹

Amen.
Praise be to Beagle.
The Easter Beagle has risen.

--jokes aside, back in 1986 I adopted a 6 month old lemon Beagle.....back then I had no idea what a Beagle dog was all about, other then being a big fan since childhood with Snoopy the Beagle.
WoW....talk about love at first sight, for both of us.
There is a story how I came to be at the local pound that day, and adopted The Beagle that I at first, I really was not too interested in, figured I'd get a bigger dog such as the German shepherd I had from when I was a baby to age 8ish. It was like destiny for me to show up and adopt him.
Long story short, I had him with me for 15 years, absolutely beautiful dog, not just in appearance but in character/personality and soul.
When he died, I had him cremated and his urn is buried 3 feet in my front yard. And also beside him is the cremated remains of Rocky, my American staff who I adopted after Max died. Rocky also lived for 15 years, he took was a wonderful dog, similar in nature/personality to Mr. Beagle before him. I made them a little shrine in the yard with a tiny little fence, dog toys they played with and I keep it nice and tidy, free of weeds.etc.
Currently have a 7 year old Siberian Husky...lol....also amazing puppy, but Holy crap, twice the energy of both previous dogs and a little trouble maker!

I’ve always preferred the Whopper over other burgers with Wendy’s double with cheese a close second. McDonald’s cannot put enough pepper on their cardboard textured patties to make it edible for me.

your beautiful Beagle pup looks very much like my Max looked like.
I did not even know he was a ''Lemon drop Beagle'' .......your's has what looks to me the exact same colors as mine was.
So much so that if you were walking past me with your beagle on a leash, I may have a heart attack or some kind of hyper ventilation thinking Max has returned from Heavan and with another Hooooomun. Then i'd pester you into letting me pet your beagle. And check your dog's ear for Max's ID tattoooooooo! lol.

In Canada we have a burger chain called Harvey’s that blows BK out of the water. They flame grill their burgers and they are fresh, never frozen. And they are made to order as well so you always get a freshly cooked burger
I don't like their patties, seems too processed some how, maybe to fine a grind? BK patties are a bit better IMHO.
Also Harvey's can't make a Whopper, and they always seem a bit peeved when I ask for one, so I don't go to harveys anymore... I don't know exactly what goes on a Whopper at BK, so I can't coach them on it, but I would recommend that they have some basic recipes to copy the competition?
I must have the same taste preferences as the Chef who formulated the whopper recipe, as its my favorite of all major chains, and the restaurants are pretty consistent too.
Also we tend to only go to BK or any fast food place on whopper Wednesday, as that's the price point I don't feel stupid for going to a FF place...

Don’t know about your area, but McDonald’s stepped it up when they went to never frozen beef and not from a warming tray for the Quarter Pounder.

I seldom eat McDonalds but last week I had not eaten all day and the only late drive thru option was McD's so I pull in and see a new burger advertised and said just give me that new Big Arch with extra Sauce having no idea what I had just ordered.

When I got home and took a bite I found myself laughing as I had no idea how big that thing is! Has THREE slices of cheese! THREE!

After eating it, I though WOW what was that? I Googled to see what in the world I had just attempted to eat and this is what it said... its the BIGGEST anything I have even seen come out of McD's!

Contains nearly twice the calories of a Big Mac and more than double the meat, making it a heavy, two-hand eating experience.

If that sounds like your, its only around a Limited Time! Go get you one...

My buddy at work was absolutely raving about these, so I got one. Needed more sauce and much less raw onion. Sauce was good. It fell apart about halfway though so I just said to heck with the bun and wallowed in the mess it made. She sat in my gut for an awful long time after.

Now I want to try a double Whopper, but I gotta wait for dat, just like Vito made Johnny Cakes wait lol. I did bacon cheeseburgers at the house 2 days last week...... These don't sit in my gut like a fast food burger. That's home cured and smoked bacon and my own home ground beef to boot ;)

I will say, ALL the fast food burger joints are really underwhelming, especially compared to my own home made beef burgers.
Am i a gourmet chef? Nopes!
But i buy fresh lean or medium ground beef, or mix with ground pork, fresh lettuce tomatoes pickles, fresh hamburger buns, mayo, mustard, ETC.
Whether pan fried, air fryer, or on the bbq, my burgers just better then fast food.
And yes, ive tried Five Guys and those are great but way too expensive.
There are burger chains in California we do not have in Canada, such as In N Out, jack in the box, lots i see online or the big chain restaurants can be good, Red Robins, etc.

I took my mother to A&W today. We had buddy burgers, buddy chicken burger, fries, coffee....always good at A&W....was also $21.50 with tax , not a regular thing to do.
Still have not gone to Burger King for birthday treat.
Maybe next week.
Or i make my own. 😋

Every ten years or so I try another Whopper and then I remember how much I dislike it 🫤 I like every other fast food burger though

BK does have one really good burger up here though, The Roadhouse King
Are there not any gourmet burger restaurants near where you live that aren’t fast food?

If I have the time, the deals at Applebee’s or Chili’s are better. I’m not a huge fan of Applebee’s overall, but their burgers are usually pretty good, and better than any fast food burger. I think the $9.99 deal at Applebee’s for a burger, fries, and drink is typically cheaper than BK. Especially for a 7 oz burger with bacon.

Today is Wednesday (4/8/26) and got one. Decent. Bun is not toasted, but I believe it should be. This is the size of my first bite.

Thanks to the above post, pictures are not needed:
My promotional $3.99 Whopper -see post #45- did not require use of the app.

A 'shout out' to the employees of Burger King #524....a completely renoed location.

The box is quite strong. A firm grip is required to tear the corners to lay it flat.
The stylish paper wrap wasn't at all necessary as the sandwich in now smaller

Alas, the flavor profile was 25% of the original sandwich.
The hallmark "flame broiled ness" of the original was a mere suggestion.
The tomato/lettuce and mayo dance doesn't happen anymore.
Perhaps the old, flavored mayo is better?

The bun was nowhere.
I might try another next Wednesday but wouldn't be surprised if I forget to.

KFC's and Popeye's $4.00 promotional chicken sandwiches were immeasurably superior.

Any one of the $8 mixed grill-on-pita offerings at various Halal joints near me, would be vastly more desirable.
