No surprise there. I count a lot of 4x4s in the ditches around here.

I drive on the same highway everyday. Majority of the ones in the ditches are SUV drivers; unfortunately, alot of them have kids in them. I'm starting to see more BMW drivers in ditches(RWD). Last Saturday I saw a BMW 318ti spin out on the merging lane.

The flashing arrow on that emergency vehicle is pointing the WRONG way.

That is true. I apologize to that BMW and Volvo driver.

You could see the Cherokee twitching from the ABS working it's keester off. The Toyota Avalon was doomed, no amount of ABS could save it.

I saw plenty of FWDs losing it too.

All vehicles handle poorly on ice. The driver makes the biggest difference.

Yeah, no tire is going to save you on polished ice. Snow tires may just help you make a smaller bash when you get to the edge. Your only hope is to not get into this kind of trouble in the first place because unless you have something that can actually dig into like studs or chains you aren't going to recover on ice. I love driving on snow but ice is pretty useless.

+1 Some people feel that AWD or 4 WD is the green light to drive like a nut in bad weather. That's why you see more of them in ditches.

I'd think the owner of the BMW with the hole in the side would be a little upset about the moron Tennessee DOT worker who apparently doesn't know the difference in LEFT and RIGHT.

The pickups are in trouble because there's no weight in the bed. The rear ends just start floating.

And the guy in the white F-150 extended cab that just about slips and falls getting out of his truck.... yes, sir... that is called "ice". It is slick.

At the end of the day, you are responsible for your driving and your car. If you don't have the sense to slow down, to trade a few seconds of time for a greatly reduced risk, then so be it.

Why were they just congregating at the bottom of the hill? Okay, you've had a minor non-injury collision. CLEAR THE FREAKIN' ROADWAY! You are making matters worse.

The DOT worker did not make matters any better.

The police and fire department do the same thing here. Minor collision + still driveable cars with broken headlamp/popped plastic clips on bumper cover = EMERGENCY VEHICLES BLOCKING 3 FULL LANES!

That Avalon driver is King Idiot. "I just slid uncontrollably across ice. Think I'll just leave my car here in the right of way and take a stroll in traffic. No one else will slide up on us here and if they do I can take refuge beween my mighty Toyota and this SUV."

Hey, we have the same idiocy even without the ice.

People are all the time parked in the middle of the road staring at their barely dented bumper while on the cell phone!

Not knowing you're going to make it into a video of minutes and minutes of cars piling up, you're probably going to think your insurance company and the police want you to stay put so the accident can be reconstructed and blame assigned (elsewhere). They don't cover "how to get out of the way" in driver's ed, just "exchange information".

This vid is a great excuse for looking 12 seconds ahead, people could have stopped on the warmer road if they were paying the slightest bit of attention. I must be in the 10% of the population who can detect "something is not quite right" even if I can't immediately put my finger on it.

I love the BMW at 3:42 getting opened up like a can of tuna!

Just great!

Don't you know, you have to stop as close to the scene of the accident as possible! No matter how unsafe it is!

I see it all the time and can't figure it out either. People will get out of their car in the middle of the highway for a fender bender. It's almost like their car is worth more to them then their own personal safety. If the car is drivable, get it away from moving vehicles!
