Bosch Long Life filters

I've seen the "long life" line of filters on Bosch's web site but I have never seen one for sale until today when I noticed they're available on Amazon. They look to be inferior to the Distance Plus, but the price is about the same. For my application (the L3311 replacement for Toyota's 90915-yzzf2) the price was only $.61 cheaper. 99.5% at 40 microns, holds 22 grams of dirt, and a 10,000 mile life.

Any reason anyone should buy one of these over the Distance Plus? I can't see one unless the price were substantially lower. I bought one anyway, but I'm the first to admit that I have no clear reason for doing so. Should I use it or cut it open and see what's inside?
 
The Bosch "Long Life" is nearly identical to Purolator Synthetic oil filter (same company). It has a synthetic wired-back media, silicone ADBV, etc. It's a nice solid filter and I currently have it on my car.

The Bosch Distance Plus oil filter is an odd ball. In a line up, it slide in between the PureOne/Bosch Premium and Purolator Synthetic/Bosch Long Life. It's name dose not mean it was made for extended drain interval, but a high capacity oil filter (basically hold more "dirt"). The Distance Plus is to be treated like a conventional oil filter. But remember: all oil filters should be able to be used for as long as the vehicle manufacturer's recommended OCI.

Back on topic, the Bosch Long Life are better for the long OCI and will serve you well. I really prefer Purolator/Bosch metal bypass valve over Fram Ultra nylon bypass for extended drains but that's just nit-picking.

I don't agree that the BD+ is not an extended life oil filter. When it first came out it had a published recommendation to 15k. For whatever reason Bosch removed that from their website, I suspect it has something to do with the intro of the Bosch LL and competing with it. It has a published holding capacity of 29 grams which capacity wise easily puts it in the range of extended life. With it's cellulose synthetic blend media it is most comparable to an M1 which is also an extended life oil filter.

I've run the a BD+ 3323 13.5k 2 ocis in an Accord as posted here.

All that said, the BD+ is over priced imo at it's everyday Wally price. If I had to choose between the BD+ and the elusive Long Life now at the same price, I'd likely take the LL just because it's synthetic. But price aside, the BD+ is still a good filter for an extended oci.

I agree with your disagreement. I can't recall when they recommend the BD+ for 15K but I'm not shooting the BD+ down as a "3K only" filter. (I think conventional was the wrong word choice.) Just saying that Bosch doesn't market it as an extended drain filter. The Long Life took that title, however I would not worry to run the BD+ for >10K.
 
For my FX4 and using Amazon's price, it is $11.11 for the Bosch L3410 and $8.97 for the Fram Ultra XG2. It would seem the Bosch is fairly overpriced for what you get--10K FCI, 99.5% @ 40um, and holds 22 grams of dirt versus 15K FCI, 99.9% @ 20um, (I assume) the equivalent amount of dirt holding capacity with the Fram. I should think a Bosch D+ would be every bit the equivalent of the LL, but then again it is more expensive at $11.97.

Not a bad deal considering the shipping is free and probably won't have to pay sales tax.

That's a good deal, wish there were AAP's around here.
 
Bosch Long life oil filter has filtration efficiency 99.5% at 40u.
I think it is about 95% at 20u - like Wix XP (and Napa Platinum).
But it is less(4x !!!) than Amsoil EaO, Royal Purple, Purolator Synthetic (98.7% at 20u, 99% at 25u) and even Purolator Classic (97.5% at 20u)

That is why I don't like Bosch Long life.
 
What is preferable (for you): Purolator Synthetic (99% at 20u) or Bosch Long life (99.5% at 40u) and why?

p.s. For example: Purolator PSL14610 or Bosch L3323 ?

The same question: What is preferable (for you): Purolator Synthetic (99% at 25u) or Bosch Long life (99.5% at 40u) and why?
 
No brainer ... Synthetic at 99% @ 25 microns if price is not the issue in you buying decision.
