BMW dealer telling me BMW won't cover wheels because of Ceramic Coating??

I had these wheels on my 2020 5 series touring. I ended up having 3 wheels replaced under warranty here in the UK for failing lacquer and corrosion to the diamond cutting as a result in the 13 months/25,000miles that I owned it. Worth adding my wheels were also ceramic coated with Carbon Collective Platinum Wheels.

Not going to guess on the particulars of this case, but It should be noted that it's not unheard of for their OE wheel finishes to fail.

The three-stage Chrome Shadow finish used on M wheels past wasn't especially durable, and difficult to match, pretty much ensuring a complete respray needed to be done.

Perhaps also an argument to use nothing but soap and water, instead of harsh cleaners, for wheel cleaning. More effort, but less risk.

The wheels were ceramic coated the day I brought the car home. The wheels were only ever cleaned with Valet Pro Billberry at 1:10.

The first sign of failing was white streaks under the clearcoat. Around these there was never any sign of stone chips or any 'break' in the clearcoat.

It was unforeseen that I had to get rid of the car. My plan was to keep it long term and I'd already decided that once out of warranty the wheels would be powdercoated silver as I realised that the finish was not the most durable.

How could they have got an answer from BMW that quick though?

It's in the system. When I was a service porter in 2013, we'd be able pull up any information that was put in via any BMW dealership regardless if you visited 6 hours prior up to I think 2003-ish when they started using their computer records system.

I never even knew OEMs put a topcoat finish of some sort on alloy wheels. I know the Steelies have paint, but that’s the only coating I’ve heard of. Why even bother doing this? Seems like a big headache for such little return.

Well, it turns out the wheels where re-coated before the previous owner returned the car back since it was a lease. So, obviously, BMW isn't going to do anything. Now the question is, find new wheels or get the old ones re-done. I don't want another layer of clear on the wheels. So, I'd have the wheel repair guy refurbish he two wheels. So, strip all the old coating off, paint the whole wheel the grey color, and then machine the spokes like there done from the factory.

Or just do as I planned for mine, get them all painted one colour. No more diamond cutting, that seems to be the achillies heal with these wheels.

It may already be in the computer.......
different car, but I know when my bro was dissatisfied with work on his Ford Raptor, and when he went to another dealership, he was told another already handled your warranty claim, so you have to go back to them since you're dissatisfied with the outcome. Now of course this may be BS, but what I'm saying is although I'd do the same, drive around looking for the answer I want, it may be the same answer....

There is a guy in Jupiter, FL called "First Place Wheels". He does amazing work and can refinish them to new standards. Prices are good too.

Motorwerks should have a wheel guy that they call when they have work - I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same guy for multiple dealerships up there. If you're looking to powder coat, I know a company too.
I'd rather have both wheels re-done.

I took my car into Motorwerks BMW so they could look at the two wheels that were peeling (I can literally scrap the clear coat off with my fingernail). The service writer is telling me the ceramic coating is peeling and not the wheel's finish. How can ceramic coating peel? You can't peel wax off a car. How can you peel ceramic coating? I took it to another dealership and they told me the same thing. BMW won't cover the wheels since they've been coated. Seems like a bunch of b.s. I might take it to another BMW dealer and not tell them the wheels been coated. From my understanding, BMW pays techs. for warranty work. So what the hell 🤣
Why would anyone tell them they coated their wheel when asking for warranty work on the clear coating of the wheel?
