Have you considered using paint thinner on the section of doorjam where the VIN sticker is?

What do you have to lose?
You currently can't read it, so if you use paint thinner and lightly dab away at it, if the paint comes off, and you can read it, then life is good.
If the sticker dies a horrible death, well, you aren't any worse off than you were before.

If you are certain the VIN is correct they may be using O's instead of ZEROS. Just double check that.

Yes. It is very unsettling these days almost every time I deal with workers everywhere it seems. It is like some space pod came down to earth around the time of the pandemic and loaded up and took every person with experience and common sense and took them off to another world and left us with untrained / uncaring "rookies" at every place of business. Of course it could be ME! Old timer with little to no patience......
