BMW B58 Engine Oil Recommendation

The B58 engine in my late 2020 745Le XDrive has just ticked over 185k

Has its Service at BMW using 5w30 LL04, no Dealers that I have used supply the LL17FE oil during servicing, variable service interval but usually between 19000 and 20000 miles on iDrive

And I do 2 or 3 interim oil changes with either Castrol 5w30 LL04 or Shell 5w40 LL04 if I have time to order it from OpieOils or can find it locally.

Getting disposed of in November when it will likely have around 210k miles.

The engine still runs like it did when purchased at 26k, still uses the same amount of oil, still does the same fuel economy, performance seems the same but without proper testing couldn’t confirm or deny.

B58 really is a beast of an engine

Have decided my retirement car is going to be an M140i or M240i with a B58

I’ve beat the absolute snot out of my B58 in a 6,000lb Grenadier in 105f heat low speed high RPM off-roading in MOAB. It’s been amazingly impressive. Tuned it for better power. Fuel economy sucks and wish I could have gotten the B57 diesel but for a gasser it’s been fantastic and taken a lot of abuse.

It's nothing massive but surprised the coolant temps went down 7 degrees on average. That's good news since it deletes an OEM radiator which i wouldn't want to do.

Sorry just seeing this. No I'm not. Redline performed very well with impressive results. I'd put about 75hrs of driving on it with 54hrs of it going to the Rockies then heading to moab and it came back great. I honestly hate the bottles so much I can't talk myself into using it. Wearing gloves and trying to peal the little tops off and then stowing spares in my pull out drawer system was such a pain. I do short OCI anyway so I've been running Molygen 5w40 in it and don't have any reason to change. I have several quarts of 300V on a shelf that's been there for almost two years I need to use so will probably toss that in next. Overall for me everything has ran great so long as I stay with the heavier weights. Running that 0w20 it came with made it sound more like a typewriter.
