I personally don't like chrome at all. I think it cheapens the look of a car for the most part, especially newer cars. The only chrome on my car are the Borla exhaust tips, the 5.0 badges and the little rings on the wheel center caps.

Well, there ya go...and this is why we have both...some like chrome, some like black...I'm guessing you're a younger guy?

Yup, 33. Generally when I think of chrome wheels, the more common ones are the absolutely gaudy 20"+ wheels that cost more then the vehicle they are bolted to are worth.

An older Camaro or muscle car with the chrome wheels or Torque Thrust wheels looks perfect to me though. It totally fits the period of the vehicle. When I see newer Mustangs with chrome wheels, I think it looks absolutely terrible.

The good news is that there are enough wheel options available in most cases, that everyone can get something they like.

The one pet peeve I have in wheels, is fake beadlock wheels. I don't like them, and never will. To me it screams poser.

Anything on a vehicle which is designed to look like the real deal, but is in fact a fake lookalike, also rubs me the wrong way. It all reminds of the tacky stick-on [censored] aisle at Pep Boys.

Yep, the younger guys tend to like more of what's trending...guys my age (59) tend to like a more traditional look, i.e. shiny paint and chrome wheels, but it's good we have choices too...

I know what you mean about the fake beadlock wheels...I don't care for them either...

I am 42 yrs old. I do not like chrome wheels either. I agree with bdcardinal that it looks cheap. Either cheap or hey look at me im shiny. I do like the Matte look on paint jobs/wraps and wheels.

I think its a further sign of the general decline in society away from style, beauty and symmetry towards a depressing, soviet type world. Black clothes, black cars, bleak dark movies, tv shows, etc.

Says a lot about who, and where we are these days.

Good grief, I'm 3 years older than the curmudgeon. I wasn't going to post again today, but the phony bead-lock wheel comment sent me into orbit. Might as well go the full Monte and have them chromed with the spinney things that look like the wheels are still rotating when the vehicle is stopped. Most aftermarket wheels are too busy for my liking.
Nothing makes a new vehicle look cheap than 4X4 decals, Z-71 etc and dealership logos across the back window. It would be different if they were paying me for rolling billboard advertising. A hair drier, fishing line and coin operated car wash the quick fix.

Every generation thinks that the current one is going to you know where in a handbasket.

Just continues to show you that there's always people out there with more money that sense. The manufacturers are offering "night" packages where wheels and other items are blacked out. They basically charge extra to swap it out with a different color.

I don't need a phony hood scoop or engine size, transmission, 4X4, suspension package and place of purchase written on my truck.
All that extra clutter screams 1960s and chrome is 50s. LED lights all over a vehicle looks like the circus coming to town.
I don't mind midnight editions, but black is hard to keep looking good.

The flat black primer look not so much, they look better after a good mud bog.
The message... this is a truck not a donk mall crawler, if you don't like it don't look at it.

I disagree about chrome. Chrome is timeless...

I like the black wheels. Not sold on the matte finishes yet. Not even on baseball batting helmets.

I was at the local tire shop the other week, and they do have lots of wheels, but 90% were black. Black does look good I think on some cars/trucks. I will take a set of Cragar S/S chrome any day over all that black mess.

Lots of normal looking wheels at www.oewheelsllc.com

edit; Copy that Grampi on the timelessness of chrome, but some flag ship models overdo it. Is that a pickup truck or a Greyhound bus going down the street?

Talking about decals on cars, the 70s cars we old guys love have their share of graphics. Super Bee, R/T, Shelby, Boss, big stripes everywhere. Shaker hoods, and who could forget the giant Fire Chicken decal? 4x4 & Z71 not so bad maybe..
