Current ugly trends

Yes, mine and that of several others in this thread, I think you might be the odd man out

I am on occasion actually, lol.

Wouldn't use the word "like". It looks like the head of a praying mantis, but it does look "Super Car"-ish, which is what I think GM was going for.

The best looking Camaro was the first gen:

Which of course the current car looks absolutely nothing like.

This is quite unlike the Challenger throwback:

I'm convinced you are blind. The current Camaro looks way more like the gen 1 than does the Challenger. The current Challenger looks like it's been eating way too much fried chicken and ended up with too much junk in the trunk...a brick...

You think Kim K posed for the back fender ? 😷

Elmo ripped that design off and did a poor job on it.

Can’t remember where I stole this pic. Apologies if it was from this forum.

Back in the day, front wheels were in front of the engine and not far from the front bumper. The rear quarter however had a lot of overhang. I deeply prefer that look. Now it’s just the opposite.

I really want to like the lines of the below Xc60, yet whenever I have looked at one to buy, I can’t unsee it.

At least it doesn't have the stupid and ugly looking black plastic trim all the way around the bottom of the vehicle...

I'm guessing you don't get accused of having a discerning eye too often, lol

I got to chime in as an old hot rodder.

First off, Gen 1 Camaros are "chick cars" or "secretary"
cars. F/X bodies dont have a full frame, they are a prettied up Nova, they are not a "muscle car"

That out of the way, I have built a near stock SS clone '66 Chevy II and enjoyed it with a proper 350/350 SBC power and M21 4 speed

These profile designs look all fine and good. You cannot expect the front elevation on a Fed car to do anything but hint at the past.

If you want retro style, go for the complete experience - buy an old car and work it over. This is the 21 century for crying out loud! Can we not appreciate a forward-looking design with but a casual nod to the past?

The Challenger RePop was a stunner when it can out for sure, but in the decade plus since then we have been inundated and oversaturated with TV ads and then seeing so many on the street that they just blended into the background noise. To criticise, I must say, the redo has a pretty fat behind in comparison - Baby's got back! And it's a real scale buster due to it being a Daimer/Magan Steyr (previous gen S/E class) LC platform modified for stateside production. Regardless, I'd park one in my driveway - though I tend to low circus appeal, so it would be the ho-hum Charger for me - stick-shifted as a man (or woman) should, of course!

The Challenger looks fantastic; a proper homage to the car it was designed to look like, retro done right. The Camaro doesn't. Yes, the Camaro is lighter (~3800lbs vs ~4300lbs), but the 70's Charger was a bigger car than the F-body of the time too, so 🤷‍♂️

And, for some perspective, it's within the weight of one adult male of the BMW M5 (4,100lbs) and slightly lighter than the Mercedes C63 AMG at 4,300lbs on the button. It's not excessively heavy for a car of its size.

;)
Chrysler stretched the limited resources they had to make the 300, Charger, Magnum and Challenger. All are the same car at their base. They had a pretty good run with that: 2005 to 2024.

A lot of the complaints in this thread I can definitely understand. I find the gigantic trucks in particular just hideous - and I love a nice, basic work truck. I also dislike the 'creases' as well as the bulbous bodies of things like the new Camry, which I consider one of the ugliest modern cars ever made. But I always remind myself, somebody likes these designs. I think manufacturers are on the right track if they sell a lot of them. All the designers are driven 100% by the all mighty dollar and I don't think they'd keep making vehicles people hate ie wouldn't buy. SOMEONE is buying them.
