Have you noticed how black wheels seem to be the "in" thing these days? So many of the new vehicles are coming with them now. Call me old, out of touch, out of style, whatever, but I still think chrome wheels look much better. To me black wheels say "don't look at my wheels cuz I'm too lazy to clean them....

Black wheels have been popular to many years now ... but seems even more so today. They look good in some instances, but personally I like light colored wheels (silver, light grey) on most cars.

There is a trend to "murder out" a car where everything on it is black or dark. The plastidip craze accelerated this since it can be sprayed on in such a way that it's reversible.

Both my Charger and the Jeep have a sort of black chrome to their wheels. I think it looks nice, but boy does it get covered in brake dust fast, which in turn makes it look matte.

Well what you think is all that matters. I'm not really sure who hates regular aluminium rims. I always think of black rims as ghetto though, that was the look with steel stamped rims without hubcaps. It's a love or hate thing, I actually avoid cars that have aftermarket rims, never know what other sort of crazy things the owner might have done.

The Robo cop/Batman look is so overdone, the local Chyrsler dealer has nothing but black wheel Chargers and Challengers

Old Skool is where it's at for me, I like chrome and shine, had my tuck painted 5yrs ago and had new rims and tires put on, still 15's but they are corvette rallys and TA tires with raised letters, get lot's of compliments being surrounded in a sea of black.

Yep, wheels can make or break the look of a vehicle...to me, chrome wheels make a car pop, black wheels are way to subdued looking for my taste...

The European aftermarket went black wheel before it migrated here. I personally hate it. To my eyes it almost always ruins the intent of the designer. And worse, it's fanboy approved. Yuck indeed.

I'm no fan of all black or nearly all black wheels.

I like bright painted silver wheels, and argent painted steel wheels with chrome trim rings and similar. I do like the darker grey as well as the machined and clearcoated wheels.

Nothing wrong with the concept of too lazy to clean wheels. Some cars dust the wheels badly with the first few trips around the block. Keeping looking clean longer is smart. Those who care will still clean, and those who don't, won't.

My brothers darker grey Audi Q5 looks really nice with deep grey 20" rims. Normally the chrome ones look pretty boring on it.

Kind of along the same lines is the matte finish paints I'm seeing on vehicles today...to me, it just looks like they forgot to finish painting the vehicle...looks like primer to me...

I sprayed mine black with plastidip lol..simply because the red paint matched well to black rims. Originally they were silver OZ Rims but they had to much curb rash..so simply a matter of making look a tad better for little cash.

A fighter jet isn't shiny. The sr-71 is matte. There's an sr71 version of the mustang that looks awesome. I've thought about plastidip but its almost as much as a real paint job.

Black wheels and satin paint are a thing, if you don't get it you must be old.

Like me.

Black wheels have been around for years, when the OEMs start putting them on new cars it's so over.

Give me shiny paint and chrome wheels any day!

Just noticed this other day on an 05 Saab that's for sale. Plus a few more wheel pics for comparison. Hey, we all love pics on here so here you go. We eat up pics on here like cheeseburgers at a cook out. So here you go.

I think black wheels can look good on the right vehicle. My Mustang came with grey wheels that are almost the same color as the car. Ford Racing offers set of my same wheels but black that I have been thinking about getting as I think it would look better.

I personally don't like chrome at all. I think it cheapens the look of a car for the most part, especially newer cars. The only chrome on my car are the Borla exhaust tips, the 5.0 badges and the little rings on the wheel center caps.

When I first noticed the black alloy wheel trend, I wrongfully assumed such a car had missing hubcaps and it didn't look good.
I still don't care for the look.

Well, there ya go...and this is why we have both...some like chrome, some like black...I'm guessing you're a younger guy?
