Is it best to use a 3K mile fuel additive (Techron / Regaine) right before your next oil change , right after your next oil change - or does it matter ? Instructions typically just say to use : "every 3K miles" ...

I do a 6,000 OCI and to add Techron Concentrate a tank or two before the oil change. I doubt it makes any difference. Lots of conjecture here but, no UOA data. to suggest anything of significance whenever you add. .

Thanks ...I was thinking to run a full dose of complete fuel system cleaner additive one tank before my next oil change . I suppose this way if there is any residue from the cleaning some deposits may end up in the oil . I'm a fairly regular user of MMO and TCW3 so hopefully there is not a lot of cleaning to do and what residue there is goes out the tail pipe .

Just before you change the oil. The thinking is that if there's anything really nasty you break loose, it will not have a long long time to circulate throughout the oil.

It doesn't matter when you add it. The top tier gasolines are supposed to have higher levels of the additives so you are getting additives always. [Chevron gas with Techron?]

Unless you have a serious blowby problem I wouldn't think that any harmful amount of freed contaminants would make their way from your combustion chamber to your crankcase. The only thing I would suggest is making sure you get your engine up to operating temperature and keeping it there to maximize the cleaning. If you have a long commute or put a lot of highway miles on your car, that's all you need. But if you're a short tripper like me, maybe add in a few highway runs on the tank with the fuel system cleaner.

IMO...if you have been using a cleaner all along at specified intervals....I doubt you will have chunks of carbon or debris falling into your oil.

I've had no problems with adding fuel additive all the time in small doses. My T4R is on a steady diet of TC-W3 and Chevron Techron Fuel system cleaner at every fill up.

The mix is 3 ounces of TC-W3 and 3 ounces of Techron for 12 gallons of gas. I have the Techron added at each fill up, 3 ounces, since there are no Chevron/Texaco stations in my area.

No problems to report and engine runs smooth.

Anytime is good. If you're using a top tier gas, you can space out the dosage to 6k-10k miles or more. If you go too far in miles by noticing a difference in performance after you run the injector cleaner, simply shorten the interval the next time.
