Best single oil for two different vehicles

0W or 5W - 30 will do the job from the coldest winters to the hottest summers.

Regardless of the chart, from what I've read there's pretty much no disadvantage to using a 0w instead of a 5w. If I can save even a tiny bit of wear by having better cold start flow I'll do it. Thanks guys for pointing out that's for Canada vehicles though, That does answer the 0w-20 question.

I even looked at the Chevron Delo 400 0w-30 with its high VI and even lower MRV than the Mobil 1 AFE. I found though, much like others here, that it is super hard to find.

Unless you are stretching the pumpability limits of the oil (-35 to -40C), you won't have any tiny bits more or less wear.

If there is no need to run 0w30 then go a 5w30. An A3/B4 style would work well against the fuel dilution and the toyota also won't care. I have the same engine in my kluger/highlander. It's a pretty relaxed engine and very thirsty for fuel too

I don't think you have to worry about calcium in your 2.4l DI engine, it is DI turbo engines that can have LSPI issues that can be affected by the calcium level in the oil used. My car was actually recalled due to LSPI!
I have learned that looking for low calcium oils really puts a huge restriction on the brands that you can use, so don't limit yourself that much given that you don't have an engine that would be prone to LSPI. I'd also suggest that a decent 5W30 synth should be fine for your winters, I have to park outside overnight on cold White Mountain ski weekends and start up early in the morning and 5W30s like QSUD and M1 have worked well for me.
I used to live not too awfully far from you, Elgin right near the border with Hoffman. I remember a string of days with overnight lows near -20F when we were in that house, the garage was not insulated at the time and door to it from the kitchen would just radiate cold! My dad was a machinery buyer ages ago and knew Rockford well from the days when that city was a manufacturing powerhouse.

I live at roughly the same latitude here is Iowa as the OP does in Rockford, and I use a 10w30 year round in all my personal vehicles with no issues, so like others have stated, a 5w30 should be more than up to the task if that is one's choice.

Thanks for all the input folks.. As usual it sounds like I'm overthinking things! Going to go with whatever synth 0w- or 5w-30 is on sale at oil change time
