I have just bought a new '08 Honda Civic EX, 4dr, manual. I want to make it last 4 years and 200,000 (or longer). If I follow the recommended maintenance schedule, it will be in the shop ALL THE TIME and cost a fortune. I'm thinking of using a synthetic or synthetic blend and longer OCI. Please recommend an oil, oil filter, and OCI that will make the new Honda engine last and perform well but also work out well moneywise.
I've garnered a lot of info on this forum already. Great place. What do you think for my situation? Thanks in advance.
Before Honda introduced the OLM I believe the schedule was 5,000 severe and 10,000 normal. At 1,000 miles per week, I would call that normal service. You could probably run MC 5W20 for 10K with a Pure One filter, change it yourself for a cost of about $400 over 200K. Hardly a fortune and you would only be changing it ever 10 weeks. Lots of options listed. Your choice.
