This is my first post, pretty cool website.....all about oil...pretty cool!

Anyway I have an 1989 Bronco II 4x4 with 157,000 miles on it and change the oil (Walmart 10w30 {4.17 for 5 quarts!!!! woohooo!})and filter (Motorcraft FL1A)every 3,000 Miles. Just wondering, whats the best setup for my situation? Is there anything wrong with this setup?

Nothing wrong. There is no best setup without trial and error.

With that kid of mileage, I wouldn't worry too much about oil/filter brands.
Stick with the 3k interval and good luck. Haven't seen too many BroncoII's around lately!

I also have a Bronco II with the 2.9. The Motorcraft filter is obviously a quality filter, but it may be a bit expensive. I use the Wix 51515 on mine. This is the same large filter that most Ford V8s use.

P.S. Want a little more umph from your 2.9 above the 3,000RPM range? Go to any local junkyard, and bring a tape measurer with you. Take a look at any of the pre-1989 body style BIIs or Rangers and measure the throttle bodies. If you find one with an opening port measurement of 58MM, grab it. This is a direct bolt-on replacement for your stock 50MM throttle body, as Ford decreased the size of it in '88 in order to (barely) increase fuel efficiency.

I'd agree that if all seems to be doing fine, keep it up. A dose of Auto-Rx just might be a very good idea.

I saw my favorite personalized license plate of all time on a nice (near?)new Bronco II back in the late 80's or early 90's. In Texas, we're limited to 6 characters. It simply said,"4X4 4ME".

Interesting observation. For me, the FL1A is about $2.97 (WalMart)and the Wix about $5.97 (O'Reilly Auto.)
