Would it be reasonable to assume, based on these photos, that Mobil1 filters are garbage?

I've seen plenty of fails on this board from all filter brands. However m1 may or may not source some of their filters from M+H. We don't always know who is making m1 filters in various coo's. That being said I've seen a good chunk of these m1 filters not in the greatest quality that I'd pass unless you run a cartridge filter to easily inspect it. M+h makes different brands and some do better than others. Again, do we know if that south Korean made filter was made by m+h?

Mann, Mahle, or Hengst for the N52.

Leave the other M1 filter on the shelf. The Mahle is my favorite of the bunch.

I have used the Fram XG10075 as in your picture, and it held up fine.
And Liqui Moly oil. Nobody is advocating M1 oil filters and few are even making the case for M1 oil on this brand of cars.

The Mobil 1 oils with BMW LL-01 are fine. At the moment, there are three Mobil 1 FS European viscosities with LL-01 — 5W-30, 5W-40, and 0W-40.

Mann, Mahle, or Hengst

Yeah, no need to try to reinvent the wheel.

All three make a quality filter, which are reasonably-priced, and readily available.

If past practice is any guide, Mahle was one one who designed and made the filter housing, so it's not unreasonable to expect they know how to make a proper filter for it, and that their specs meet BMW's expectations for performance.

I never thought about that but it makes a lot of sense. Could also explain why Mahle filters are OE on the E90 M3 and E60 M5, while Mann is OE on non-M models. Perhaps the latter undercut Mahle on the contract
