Hello everyone, I am new hear and have a question.

I own a 01 Pontiac Grand Prix GT and a 00 Ford Explorer XLT 5.0-V8 AWD, both w/ about 60k on therm.

I currently am using Amsoil 0w30 and SDF filters in
both and change both every 6 months, which works out to be about 7-10k.

My question is, being that I def want to stay with a full synth, would Mobil 1 EP 5w30 Oil and filter be better for my specific vehicles. Keep in mind that I want to stay w/ my 6 mo changes.

I have read that the Amsoil 0w30 is closer to a 40w and that the Mobil 1 EP 5w30 is closer to a 20w. Do the Buick 3.8s and the 302 windsors prefer a specific weight, lighter or heavier?

Thanks for any input, great site you have here and I am glad to be a part of it.

Having had experience with the Buick engine, I'd stick with the Amsoil that you're using for that engine. They do tend to do better with a little "body" in their lubrication fluid.

The Ford might do better with the Mobil, as many a member say that thinner can actually do a better job in these, but don't hold me to that.

If it were me, unless you are noticing any problems or concerns with either engine, your formula is great, so why mess with it?

It is easier for me to use Mobil 1. I would like to use the same thing in both if possible. But if there is a clear advantage to using a heavier weight in the GP I might have to take that into consideration.

Mobil-1 5w30 regular has a thicker viscosity at 100 that averages 11.3 vs 10.6 for the EP.

However, you are treating those engines very well with Amsoil. I'd stick with it or switch to German Castrol Gold 0w30 - found only at Auto Zone.

Yes, GC is a full synth and considered among the best with many on this board. You can find the cult-like following in the european oils section of this forum (AKA the GC section) and it will definanetly go the distance of 7,500 - 10,000 miles if the vehicles are properly tuned. The advantage to this oil is the horde of elves that serve to protect your engine day and night!

Then again, so can Havoline conventional but without the elves.

Seriously though, Mobil 1 is available everywhere and I believe will be fine for your application.

Fr95,

It is so encouraging to find someone who understands outside Das Dorf von den Elfen.

I think the Pontiac and the Ford engines would thrive on GC with an Amsoil "Ea" or M1 EP filter on each.
