Uh, they really were never there. Foreign manufacturers were looking for cheap labor in the South. If you're looking for American made, check out the most American made car there is- Jeep Cherokee.
German suspension, German transmission, Austrian AWD. IMO, it is great combination what they did, but just to make this clear.
