I currently use Mann cartridge filters in my Sportwagen's 1.8L turbo EA888.3 engine. They are free from FCP Euro for me but are normally ~$10 give or take typically. These to me are OEM-equivalents. I'm interested in these Fram super-filters I read about but see many variations. For doing a 1 year/8K mile OCI with ~8 track days, what Fram filter (or other?) would you choose to replace my free Mann filters?

The fram synthetic endurance is your best bet since you're stuck with that size.

Those rock catchers will blow up that beetle van faster then you can say human centipede in the native german tongue.

Just kidding. I'd pick a tough guard or higher, but post after action pics for proper dissection.

This will be my face:

If you want to stay with same Manufacturer, then Purolator Boss or Purolator One is a good choice for extended drain if available for your engine.

So let it be written...so let it be done...

Will swap in this new Mann...figure I have it and this oil will be in until Dec/5 more track days plus it's on top so easy to change AND I can send it and the new ones back to FCP for my ~$20 in store credit. Also of note Wallyworld 10'x10' canopies have beat inflation and are still $50 like they were ~10 years ago....similar to Costco $1.50 hot dogs.

Have never saw a failed MANN filter out of moms MB GLC or stepdads MB E-350 yet

Note that Mann filter with ~4.5K/7 mos. and 3 track days had nothing interesting in the pleats. HPL for the last 30K.

It's hard to say which is more efficient, but the particle counts I've seen for the Ultra show such poor efficiency for small particle sizes that almost any other filter would do better. Its efficiency for larger particles seems to be merely average to good.

The Ultra and Mann filters had the same holding capacity in the Brand Ranks tests, but the Ultra had 33% more restriction, so would probably be a bit more prone to clogging/bypassing. A less restrictive filter will also increase oil flow and oil pressure a bit. These can only be good things, especially on a track car.

My gut feeling is that Mann is the better bet in terms of construction quality as well.

The Endurance is also more restrictive than the Mann and might have a lower holding capacity as well, but it's almost certainly more efficient, and that might be a worthwhile trade off. The Ultra doesn't really seem to excel at anything.
