I buy my ultra from amazon it comes out to about 6 bucks shipped with their subscribe and save.


If you don't have a clue to what you want and have to ask at Walmart then your just as brain dead as they are, people that go there already know what they need without assistance.

I see the efficiency quoted alot, but it is quoting the manufacturer. I'd sure like to see some independent verification of this - from all manufacturers.

Not a filter recommendation, but he sounds like he likes saving money. If you head over to the rebate section, you can see that Pennzoil is having a $10 mail-in rebate on their Platinum Oil. He could buy two 5 quart jugs of Pennzoil Synthetic oil for around 12-15 each after rebate depending on local price.

Filter manufacturer's performance quotes are most likely true, because I'd bet other filter manufacturer's test their competitors filters so verify said performance claims.

On case where the manufacture was conservative on their efficiency spec was Ford/Motorcraft filters. At one time (and maybe they still so) claim 80% efficiency at 20 microns. Yet, the independent ISO 4548 test done by Amsoil showed the Motorcraft filter they tested (FL820S) to be 93.7% @ 20 microns - much better then their advertised claim.

Hmm. The Only?
Here is an Amsoil Ea15K13 I opened last year.

How many layers do you see? I see 3. One fine mesh, one larger mesh and then the square wire backing.

Memphis I showed you the pics already in my last filter thread.

That being said I think the Fram Ultra is a great filter and have I them on both of my cars currently.


Just talked to Jay from Fram. He said they make Amsoils filters for them and they do use single layer media but it's very thick and comparable to the Fram Ultra dual layer setup as obviously told by the similar efficiency.

The Napa Platinum though uses thin single layer media not comparable to Ultra or Amsoil.

Best oil filter at Walmart? An extended interval filter like Fram Ultra, M1, or Puro Synthetic.

Best bang for your buck oil filter at Walmart? Motorcraft.

agree, Fram Ultra or Tough Gaurd at Walmart.

However if you can go to Amazon and order a few A01s

I recently bought 2 and did 5000 miles on 1 and cut it open and posted pics and it looked like it could of went at least 3000 more....

Look in the Honda Fitech A01 or HAMP Synergy..
about as much $ and FRAM ULTRA but worth it IMO.

Really Tough Gaurd should be fine if not perfect unless you plan on going on a LONG OCI
