Hey guys,

I have two 2003 Honda Accords, one with an auto and one with a manual. Both around 85,000KM. I wan tto do an engine oil flush on them before I change the oil again. Both have seen synthetics their whole life - sometimes cheaper synths, but synths none the less.

What engine flush do you recommend. I can't do AutoRX as I will be doing it next weekend and there is no autorx dealer in Canada, and it won't get here in time. I am thinknig of either adding some seafoam to the crankcase oil (how much?) or buying some amsoil engine flush, if I can find an amsoil dealer.

Thoughts?

I believe an engine oil flush especially on a car running a synthetic is a waste of time and money. You have been flushing the engine every time you change oil already. - just my thoughts.

Honda Engine + synthetic oil + low miles + 3 year old car =

No need to flush in my opinion.

ANY pint or quart sized engine flush is OK.
Don't overfill your oil. You might need to drain a pint in order to use the quart sized bottle. But, a pint overfilled won't cause any harm

Read the directions on whatever you buy. My recommendations are: to add it to a COLD engine, run the flush for 10 minutes or less, no driving revving or load on engine(higher cold idle is enough), and immediately change your oil/filter after the flush.

Kerosene, biodiesel, lamp oil, or diesel fuel can also be used in the same manner and usually are cheaper than the store bought flushes.

spend your money on a higher quality oil and filter, better spent

pour the Seafoam or LC down the spark plug holes 3>4 ounces each and let soak for several hours, far more effective than a douche....cleans the ring pack and combustion chamber

save the flush for an old worn out sludge bucket on it's last legs

The Amsoil flush will work fine for safely cleaning light to moderate deposits. I've been using the stuff for over twenty five years with very good results.

Change just the oil filter, add the flush to the old oil and fast idle in neutral for 20-30 minutes. Then do a complete oil and filter change....

Amorak,

Even with full synthetics run in these Hondas, ring packs can begin to load up. I would consider awaiting a shipment of ARX and run the cleaning phase on the back end of a synthetic oil change for 1500 miles, followed by a dino rinse. Then go back to your synthetic for the winter.

If anything needs flushing on your cars, it's the fuel system and the braking system (and your AT). Save your money for those. Synthetic oil is like continuous flushing. An engine oil flush in a bottle is for when you're selling a neglected car.

Yes, spend yer money on a bottle of Techron - you'll need that more........
