Best caliber for deer hunting?

No match for a M-79 breach-loading grenade launcher. The meat's already tenderized and cooked.
Surprised no one has mentioned the WSM cartridges yet. I'm a big fan of the 270 WSM.
The WSM ammo has many advantages, relatively short case length, which contributes to a relively shorter action length, better propellant burning efficiency, higher velocities. It's the expense involved, I guess: outlay for a new rifle, dies if one reloads, etc. which may prevent some from making the investment in favor of equipment they already have.
